Sanchez Starts: My Preferred Line-Up To Face Manchester City

By on August 9, 2014

Football returns this weekend as Arsenal take on Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. Here’s the team I’d like to see start.

Wojciech Szczesny is a dead-cert to start in goal as David Ospina isn’t match fit, so Arsene has an easy decision to make.

Mathieu Debuchy has been excellent in pre-season and he’ll start at right-back with Kirean Gibbs on the left. Thomas Vermaelen is on his way to Barcelona while Per Mertesacker isn’t back in training yet following his World Cup exploits so we have few options in the middle of defence.

New signing Calum Chambers was superb at the Emirates Cup last weekend and he should start alongside Laurent Koscielny at the back. After that we’ll be relying on the likes of Miquel. Let’s hope we don’t pick up any injuries.

Unfortunately we still don’t have our new defensive midfielder so it’s going to be interesting to see who Arsene goes with. The odds are that Arteta will start with Ramsey, but I’d like to see Wilshere given a chance in a deeper role.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has looked sharp in pre-season so with Theo still out I’d definitely start him, while Joel Campbell also deserves a start after some encouraging performance last weekend.

Olivier Giroud was very poor against Monaco so I’d go with Alexis Sanchez through the middle and have Santi in the hole. With that pace and movement in front of him, we should cause City problems.

We may be missing our German World Cup trio but City have several player missing as well so I have a feeling we might edge this game, and the side above would have a great chance if Arsene went with it.
