Is One Of The World’s Best Players Heading To Arsenal?
Some interesting reports coming out of Germany today with newspaper Die Welt claiming that Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Marco Reus.
The German super star has recently rejected a contract extension offer at Borussia Dortmund which has led to speculation he could be on the move.
Many expect the attacker to leave next summer when his buy-out clause comes in to affect if he doesn’t sign a new deal in the next few months, but there have been suggestions that Dortmund may try and cash in this summer as they would be able to command a much higher fee.
Reus’ buy-out clause was believed to be set at €35m, but Bayern Munich chief Karl Heinz-Rummenigge revealed earlier this week that the figure is just €25m, which is well below the 25-year-old’s market value.
The bargain price has understandably attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United but German newspaper Die Welt claims that it’s Arsenal who are currently leading the race for his signature.
The paper states that Arsene Wenger is a huge fan and is desperate to lure Reus to the Emirates, and is confident of doing so next summer. This report comes just weeks after speculation in the British press claimed that we had a deal agreed in principal to sign Reus before he picked up an injury back in June, so there certainly seems to be an interest there.
Reus would be a sensational signing and the idea of him alongside the likes of Ozil and Sanchez is the stuff dreams are made of, but I’m not going to get too carried away.
I’d expect practically every club in the world to be after him next summer if he’s available for just €25m, and although we should have as good a chance as anyone here in England, the likelihood is he’ll end up at Madrid, Barca or Bayern.
