Star Agrees To Join Arsenal After Phonecall With Wenger, 4-Year Deal Agreed
David Ospina is set to finally complete his protracted move to Arsenal after agreeing terms over a four-year deal following a phone-call with Arsene Wenger, according to reports.
The Colombian international has been hotly tipped to move to the Emirates over the past couple of weeks and reports emerged over the weekend suggesting we had agreed a deal with Nice worth around £3.5m including various add ons.
There has been suggestions that the player was concerned over potential playing time but Goal are reporting that the goalkeeper has held talks with Arsene over the phone where it was explained that the boss wants him to compete with Wojceich Szczensy for the No.1 shirt and he doesn’t see him just as a back-up option.
The report goes on to claim that Ospina then agreed terms over a four-year deal worth £60,000-a-week and is due to undergo a medical next week before completing his move to north London.
Arsenal wanted the 25-year-old to fly over to the US on Friday to have his medical and link-up with his new team mates ahead of our friendly with the New York Red Bulls, but apparently Ospina didn’t want to cut short his holiday, so the deal will be concluded next week.
If these reports are accurate, it looks like we’ve wrapped up our third summer signing and I think he’ll prove to be an excellent addition to the squad. There’s no way he’ll be content at playing second fiddle to Szczesny so we’ve got some real competition for the first team shirt, which can only be a good thing.
£3.5m is an absolute steal as well. Thankfully Ospina is in the final year of his contract so Nice have been forced to cash-in now rather than lose him for free next summer.
