Arsenal Pull Out Of Talks To Sign Sami Khedira [BBC]
Arsenal have pulled out of talks to try and sign Sami Khedira and are no longer pursuing the Real Madrid midfielder, according to respected BBC journalist David Ornstein.
Speculation has been rife over the past three weeks that we’ve been deep in negotiations with both Madrid and Khedira’s representatives about a potential move to the Emirates.
At one point it looked like a ‘done deal’ as some reports suggested we’d agreed a £24m fee with the European champions. However, the move supposedly broke down over the 27-year-old’s excessive wage demands, which were somewhere in the region of £150,000-£200,000-a-week depending on which newspaper you read.
Reports over the weekend continued to suggest we were trying to thrash out a deal, however, it looks like we’ve hit a dead end as respected BBC journalist David Ornstein has just revealed on his Twitter account that we are no longer pursing the German international.
Arsenal no longer pursuing Khedira but still in market for DMF, will sign GK & probably DF depending on Jenkinson/Vermaelen situations #AFC

It’s a shame we couldn’t get a deal done as Khedira would have been an excellent signing but thankfully Ornstein claims we’re still in the market for a defensive midfielder.
Obviously there’s still a chance we could resurrect talks for Khedira in the future, but for now it looks like Arsene Wenger is going to have to turn his attention to other targets.
Morgan Schiederlin continues to be linked, as does Lars Bender, and either one of those two would also be a superb signing, so hopefully we’ll have more luck with them than we’ve had with Khedira.
