Arsenal ‘Open Talks’ Over €23m Deal For PERFECT Midfielder – Report

By on July 18, 2014

According to reports tonight, Arsenal have opened talks with Southampton over a potential €23m (£18m) deal to sign midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

After signing Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy, Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to bringing in a defensive-minded midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta.

We’ve been strongly linked with Sami Khedira in recent weeks but it seems that deal has stalled over the German international’s wage demands, forcing the boss to look elsewhere.

Goal claim that we’ve now gone back in for Schneiderlin after monitoring the French international over the past 12 months and there were even reports we made an offer for him back in January.

These latest reports suggest we have now opened talks with Southampton and while we’re believed to be willing to pay €19m (£15m) for the 24-year-old, the South Coast club value him at nearer €23m (£18m).

Obviously there’s not a huge difference between our valuations, which should give us confidence a deal can be done, but Southampton are likely to play hardball having already seen Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert force their way out the club this summer.

However, Schneiderlin has dropped several hints in recent weeks that he wants to play in the Champions League, which should certainly work in our favour, and I’d be delighted if we could bring the Frenchman to the Emirates as I feel he’d be the PERFECT foil for the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere next season.

Schneiderlin is quick, loves to tackle, doesn’t stop running, is decent in the air, and will be happy to just sit in front of the defence and break up play. He’s exactly what we need to add to our midfield this summer so fingers crossed we can get a deal done.
