Report: Arsenal To Make €26m Midfielder Bid ‘Within The Next Week’

By on June 26, 2014

Arsenal look set to renew their interest in long-term target Lars Bender with reports today claiming that we’ll make a €26m bid for the midfielder by the end of next week.

As I’m sure most fans will remember, we were strongly linked with Bender last summer and saw a £19m bid rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, with the German club insisting they wouldn’t be pushed into a sale.

But with Arsene looking to sign a defensive midfielder this summer, it appears he’s ready to resurect his interest in the 25-year-old with the Metro one of several media outlets reporting today that we’ll table a new €26m bid within the next week.

The newspaper suggests that although Bender penned a new contract in October, the German international is keen to push through a move to Arsenal this summer, so it’s looking good that we’ll finally be able to land him if we can agree a fee with Leverkusen.

Most supporters are waiting for the arrival of a striker or right back but for me, a defensive midfielder is just as important. I’m a bit fan of Arteta but he became a liability in big games last season and we desperately need an athletic ball-winner to play alongside the likes of Rambo and Wilshere next season, and Bender would be an excellent signing.

He sadly missed the World Cup through injury but is expected to be fit to return to pre-season training, so there should be no issues with him passing a medical if it came to that.

Fingers crossed these reports are accurate and we can get a deal done because Bender would be a major addition to the squad this summer.
