Arsenal ‘Open Talks’ Over Wenger’s No.1 Target – Report
Reports today are claiming that Arsenal have opened talks with Cardiff City over the £8m signing of goalkeeper David Marshall after Arsene Wenger made him his No.1 goalkeeper target this summer.
A new stopper is needed as Lukasz Fabianski has joined Swansea City on a free transfer and the boss is on the look-out for an experienced player who is going to be able to push Wojciech Szczesny for the first team jersey next season.
We’ve been linked with a whole host of players in recent weeks but one name that keeps cropping up is that of David Marshall and it appears we’ve now made our move for the 29-year-old after Arsene supposedly made him his first choice target, with Goal claiming we have opened formal talks with Cardiff and are willing to pay up to £8m to bring the Scottish international to the Emirates this summer.
Whether that kind of money is going to be enough to persuade the Welsh club to sell remains to be seen, but they are going to find it difficult to hang on to him following their relegation to the Championship.
Marshall was Cardiff’s stand-out performer in what was a disappointing season back in the Premier League and he was many pundits pick for goalkeeper of the season. He did sign a new deal back in February but is likely to jump at the chance to join a club like Arsenal if we can agree a deal with the Blue Birds, and I think he’d be an excellent addition if we could snap him up for anything around £8m.
