Arsenal Given Go-Ahead To Sign Bargain Striker
Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed Arsenal target Loic Remy wants to join a club playing in the Champions League and is available for around £8m.
We’ve been strongly linked with Remy in recent weeks as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in another striker to compete with Olivier Giroud next season, and speculation has claiming the boss was finally ready to bring the French international to the Emirates having followed him for several years.
It was suggested that should QPR successfully gain promotion back to the Premier League they would try and force the 27-year-old to remain at Loftus Road next season.
However, following the West Londoners 1-0 victory over Derby on Saturday, boss Harry Redknapp revealed that Remy wants to move to a club playing in the Champions League and confirmed that the striker has a buy-out clause of around £8m – which is the same figure they paid when they signed him from Marseille back in January 2013.
‘I don’t see (Loic) Remy wanting to come back and play,’
‘He’s talking about playing Champions League somewhere.
‘I wouldn’t know what he’ll do, but I think he’s got a buy-out clause which is at a reasonable level.
‘Not much more than we paid for him.’ Redknapp said
Remy has just enjoyed an excellent season on-loan at Newcastle where he scored 14 goals in 26 games, so he’s proven he can do the business in the Premiership.
He would also offer us something different to Giroud up front and he’d be capable of playing out wide if needed, so I think he’d be a great addition to the squad and £8m would be a bargain for a player of his quality.
Many fans are hoping to see a star name such as Karim Benzema come to the club this summer, but he’d cost in the region of £40m and when you consider he hasn’t got any experience playing in English football, Remy at just £8m could be considered the smarter buy.
