Wenger Eyeing Sensational Double Swoop – Report
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is lining-up a sensational double swoop on Barcelona for attacking midfielders Pedro and Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claim that the boss is looking to strengthen all areas of the squad this summer and while a defensive midfielder and a striker remain the top priorities, he’s interested in signing the pair if they are available at the right price.
Reports on Monday suggested that Sanchez has been told he has no long-term future at the Nou Camp and will be sold-off this summer to the highest bidder, with the attacking midfielder valued at between £20-£25m.
I personally think that would be a bargain if we could pick him up for that kind of price. When you consider Adam Lallana is valued at a similar price bracket, Sanchez would be an absolute steal.
The 25-year-old has not established himself as a regular since making the move from Udinese three years ago but he’s still managed some impressive figures this season, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists, and we could certainly do with a threat like that in the squad.
Pedro would be just as exciting a signing, but I have a feeling he won’t be quite as easily attainable as Sanchez. The Spaniard has been with Barca his entire career and is believed to have a mammoth buy-out clause of over £100m written into his contract.
Although he’s not a first team regular these days, he still gets plenty of game time and while the newspapers claim he could be made available this summer as part of a major squad overhaul at the Nou Camp, I’d be surprised to see him leave his boyhood team.
Both player would be welcomed with opened arms in North London, but the more realistic target is Sanchez.
