Wenger Hopeful Of Tying Up Double Deal – Report
Reports in today’s newspapers claim Arsene Wenger is hopeful of making a double swoop for Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Lukasz Fabianski is set to leave the club when his contract expires in June so we need to bring in an able deputy for Wojciech Szczesny, and Marshall appears to have emerged as a key target.
Despite Cardiff being relegated, the Scottish international has enjoyed an excellent season between the sticks and was many pundits choice for goalkeeper of the season.
The Mirror claim that Arsene has also been impressed by the 29-year-old’s performances and is ready to test Cardiff’s resolve with an £8m offer at the end of the season.
Marshall would be a great addition if we could get a deal done as he would offer some competition to Szczesny for the No.1 jersey next season. The player is highly unlikely to turn down the chance to join Arsenal, despite the prospect of being second choice, and Cardiff are surely resigned to losing him after being relegated to the Championship.
The boss has already warned there won’t be a lot of business done early in the window due to the World Cup, but Marshall could be an exception as he obviously won’t be heading to Brazil, so let’s try and get this one tied up early.
The Mirror also claim that the boss is still hopeful of securing a deal to sign Real Madrid hitman Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past 12 months and we failed with a bid to sign him on a six-month loan deal in January.
However, it appears Arsene hasn’t given up hope of signing the 21-year-old and widespread reports over the past month or so have suggested we’ll try and buy him on a permanent basis this summer.
Whether Madrid agree to let him go remains to be seen, but the player is understood to want assurances he’ll be used more often next season before committing his future to the club.
