Arsene Wenger Gives Update On Bacary Sagna Contract Situation

By on May 5, 2014

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to keep hold of right-back Bacary Sagna as talks over a contract extension for the player continue to stall.

Sagna is out of contract in June and so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension despite holding several rounds of talks with his representatives.

A number of clubs are interested in signing the Frenchman and have reportedly offered better terms than we’ve so far put forward, leading to intense speculation he’s about to end his stay in North London.

However, speaking after yesterday’s 1-0 win over West Brom at the Emirates, Arsene told Arsenal.com that he wants Sagna to stay and hopes he’ll be able to convince him to remain at the club.

on Sagna’s future…

I want him to stay and I hope that convinces him that we love him here and he will stay. We have two players here who are at the end of their contracts, Sagna and Fabianski. If it was down to me, they both stay.

Like Arsene, I’m desperate for Sagna to stay and I’m still hopeful we can find an agreement, despite the tempting offers he’s got from clubs both here and abroad.

We’ve apparently offered him a two year deal worth around £80,000-a-week with the option of a third year, while he’s looking for a guaranteed three year deal worth £100,000-a-week, so we aren’t that far away.

The France international and his family seems settled in London and he’s never complained or aggravated for a move, so I still have a feeling he might end up staying.

“if it was down to me, they’d both stay.”
looks like it’s the board who has the final say.

What do we need sagna? To hell with him, he is one of the major problems we had. He has no confidence with the ball on his feet. I prefer Jenks.

I like them to stay, because to allowed him to go like the way we lossed cesc fabrigas, robie van-persie, samir nasir and other could be a big blow, so we want him to stay.

The Sagna-Arsenal stand-off Nothing new here and there can only be one outcome….

Moving on to some real news Liverpool are in squeaky bum territory they just blew 0-3 lead at Chamakh Palace to 3-3. City have the driving seat but don’t laugh yet We might just have one last twist so this can go to the wire. So much better than last term when United were pissing on everybody.

This is going to sound so “what if” but I have always argued that those four thrashing we received did not derail our season. It was the loss at Stoke and the draws against Southampton and Swansea a total of 7 points lost before injuries finally halted our charge… add back those 7 points and we are easily 83pts RIGHT ON TOP and on course for the double…. No two seasons are ever the same..despite my what if… The truth is we were good but we needed an X-factor something to make the difference during flat performances.
