Arsenal Boost As £20m Striker Admits He ‘Dreams’ Of Making Big Move

By on May 5, 2014

Arsenal have been boosted in their pursuit of Swansea’s £20m-rated striker Wilfred Bony after the player admitted he ‘dreams’ of making a move to a big club.

Newspaper reports over the weekend linked us with a move for the 25-year-old Ivory Coast international with Arsene Wenger understood to have placed him on his list of summer transfer targets.

Bony has enjoyed a sensational debut season in the Premier League following his £12m move from Vitesse Arnhem last summer, with the striker scoring 25 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for the swans.

It seems him impressive form has left an impression on Arsene as the boss lines-up a new striker this summer to offer competition to Olivier Giroud next season.

Swansea value Bony at £20m – which is a reasonable price when you consider the season he’s had – and now the player has opened the door to a big-money money this summer after admitting he wants to join a ‘big club’ and play in the Champions League.

He told Sky Sports News:

“I want to be in a bigger club, like all young players dream.”

“So, for me, it is very important to keep doing well what I am doing now and just try to get the chance, and if the chance comes to me then it is up to the club to decide.

“All I can say is that I’m very happy here to be playing in Europe again. If you win something you always want to do more, always pushing yourself.

“I want to do Champions League now. I want to play more European games, so I feel like that because you feel it is good to play against the big teams. It is good to check your level.”

I’m a huge fan of Bony and would be more than happy if we were to bring him in this summer. He’s proven he can score goals in the Premiership, he’s physically strong, has pace and can obviously finish, so he’d certainly offer us a real threat up front.

Like many fans, I’d love to see us bring in a real ‘marquee’ name but realistically who’s going to be available this summer? Benzema? Possibly, but only if Madrid can buy someone like Suarez, which is highly unlikely. Madzukic? Is he really what we need? Costa? He’s almost certainly off to Chelsea.

The only other name I can think of is Cavani but we’d never meet his wage demands, so I don’t see us bringing in a really, really, big name striker this summer and Bony would be an excellent choice from the ‘second tier’ players.

He’s clearly up for joining one of the big boys and Swansea would find it hard to hang on to him if we came calling, so it’s worth a punt later in the window if we can’t get hold of the likes of Costa or Benzema.
