Arsenal In ‘Advanced Talks’ Over £40m Deal To Re-Sign Cesc Fabregas

By on April 30, 2014

Arsenal are in advanced talks with Barcelona over re-signing Cesc Fabregas in a £40m deal that could see defender Thomas Vermaelen move in the opposite direction, according to reports.

Fabregas has been subject to jeers from his own fans at times this season with the Nou Camp faithful picking him out for rough treatment following a disappointing campaign that’s set to see the end up without a trophy.

The midfielder has also been played out of position in the majority of his 26 La Liga starts this season while he’s been substituted in 27 of the 42 games he’s started in all competitions. I mean he’s no Lukas Podolski, but that’s still a huge number of games to find yourself being hauled off before the end.

Understandably this has led to speculation that the 26-year-old is unsettled and it seems Arsene Wenger is ready to try and sign his protege for the second time, with CaughtOffside claiming that the boss has made Fabregas his No.1 summer transfer target and is already in advanced negotiations over a potential deal.

The report suggests that we’re prepared to pay around £40m to bring Cesc back to the Emirates, while a swap deal involving Thomas Vermaelen has also been mooted.

Vermaelen has been a long-term target for Barca and with the Belgian expected to leave this summer after losing his first team place, he could be tempted by the opportunity to be Carles Puyol’s replacement at the Nou Camp.

Barcelona are expected to undergo major squad surgery this summer after a poor season and they will also be planning ahead with their impending transfer ban postponed for the time being, so they might be tempted to cash-in on Cesc and use the funds to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

It’s not mentioned in this report, but I’m sure we have a buy-back clause inserted into Cesc’s contract that means we’ll have first refusal to re-sign him if Barca decide to sell – although the exact buy-back figure is unclear.

If such a clause exists, then I’m sure Arsene wouldn’t hesitate in activating it if Fabregas wants out this summer. Many will question why Cesc would leave Barca just three years after fighting so hard to secure a move back ‘home’ in 2011, but he’s not appreciated at the Nou Camp and his abilities aren’t being utilised as he’s not played in his best position – the quarter back role.

CaughtOffside may not be the most reliable of sources but the majority of the mainstream media have also reported that Fabregas is unsettled at Barca, so there could be something in this.

Talk of a move to Man Utd refuses to go away but there’s only one club Fabregas will join if he comes back to the Premier League and that’s Arsenal. It’s as simple as that.

Yes, same with Mixture Sport and Miusoccer… No real analysis, just a lot of random, far out speculations or cold lies presented as “BREAKING NEWS” which probably give them site hits so they earn money on advertisement. Avoid.

True Franck, we have a buy out clause with fabregas, I hope we try and use it. Maybe Mr. Wenger can force him back like they forced him out.

    40mil? HAHAHA!!

TRY 25MIL, cos that’s what’s in his buy back clause,
It could be less, as Barcelona still owe Arsenal money!

The transfer ban has been suspended, and will inevitably be overturned.

      Come home Cesc!

I just wonder how Ramsey wilshire cazorla fabregas chamberlain rosicky Flamini podolski arteta ozil walcott plus giroud and a new striker would squeeze into 6 positions.

But if wenger could make that work, it would be amazing. How about keep vermaelen and play 352 next season? Grooming jenkinson and 2 new centre backs to be understudies to the back 3. Gibbs and Monreal could become wingers as well, whilst sagna allowed to leave.

    Szczesney, new keeper, martinez

    Koscielny mertesacker vermaelen
    Jenkinson ajayi, miquel,
    Hayden

    Wilshire Ramsey
    Arteta flamini
    Coquelin diaby
    Olsson zelalem
    Fabregas ozil cazorla
    Chamberlain rosicky gibbs
    Campbell, aneke, monreal
    Bellerin, eisfeld, gnabry

    Walcott, new striker
    Giroud, podolski,
    sanogo, akpom

That’s 36 but includes 11 under 21s and means only 2 more signings after fabregas, (1 of which could be Schmeichel on a free) leaving loads of money for the best striker we can afford and lots of cover in all positions. Especially in midfield, where we suffer the most.

Out – fabianski, viviano, sagna, djourou, boateng, kallstrom, galindo, ryo, park, bendtner

In – Schmeichel fabregas and world class striker

As most people have commented this is a rubbish report with probably not a grain of truth in it.
I can though understand Fabregas being upset, fancy home fans booing such a superb player ! However with our current riches in the midfield section how could we fit him in, although sadly I do think it is time for us to bid farewell to Arteta and Flamini is slowing up.
It is striker(s) that we badly need to sign though. My favourite would be Wilfried Bony who has been tremendous in a struggling Swansea team. I also think it less of a risk signing someone who has proved he can do it in the PL rather than a someone from a foreign league

Like a few that had already pointed out, 2 words are enough to see that this transfer is never going to happen. Wilshere and Ramsey.

Have I missed something here. The last I heard, UEFA had slapped a one season ban on Barca buying or selling anyone in the next year. genuine question…..please enlighten me.

We don’t need Fabregas. We have Ramsey. There are other areas we need to strengthen

We don’t need him back. We have others positions to strengthen and other types of players to find. We players with power and pace. Anyone that’s watched Fabregas this season will know he’s lost a yard of pace. Which is why Barca want rid.

I watch cesc play at Barcelona all the time…..it has nothing to do with his pace, it’s the style of game that Barcelona play that doesn’t get the best out of fabregas. For cesc to excel the game has to be quicker for cesc more vertical. Barcelona play to tiki taka. If he does return to arsenal we will see the best of him back to his old self

If its true that he want to leave Barcelona, Then the Price is not high as 40 million, the price will remain at 25 million. If Fabregas is not happy at Barcelona, Arsenal will well-come him and the supporters will be very happy to see him back to Arsenal. He is more matured now, and he can get the best from Arsene Wenger. Wenger knows how to use Fabregas.

Cesc is a fantastic plsayer when playing with xavi, innesta,in d middle u probably seeing ur self no where..i watch cesc playing i find out that he hadly all balls when xavi passes more imminent iniesta dribbling an allocating pases to messi so he finds it complicating when playing out of position….xavi posses the same quality as cesc converting a born midfider #8 to play a role as striker is hard and dat is d critics dat is finding in barca…we all know he is a potentiality players..
