TEAM: My Preferred Line-Up To Face West Ham: Rosicky + Giroud Start

By on April 14, 2014

Arsenal get back to Premier League action when we face West Ham on Tuesday night with a return to fourth place within our sights.

The squad is going to be knackered as the game comes just three days after our gruelling FA Cup semi final win over Wigan, but they’ll have to suck it up and grind out a win to keep our hopes of a top four finish alive. Here’s my team:

Goalkeeper: Lukasz Fabianski was the hero on Saturday but Wojciech Szczesny will return for tomorrow’s game.

Defence: Laurent Koscielny is facing a late fitness test but he trained today so I can see him coming back in to start alongside Per Mertesacker. Nacho Monreal was forced with a dead leg at the weekend so Kieran Gibbs is likely to start at left-back.

Midfield: Aaron Ramsey had to play over 110 minutes in the cup, which wasn’t ideal, so I’d be majorly surprised if he started again tomorrow. It would be hugely risky, so I’d give Kim Kallstrom his full debut. With Mathieu Flamini serving the second of his two-game ban and Jack Wilshere still out, Mikel Arteta will also have to start.

Attack: The Ox was our best outfield player against Wigan but he looked out on his feet by the end and he went into the match carrying a knock, so it wouldn’t be wise to force him to start again. Tomas Rosicky is facing a late fitness test but if he passes, i’d start him on the right.

Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry are all still injured, so Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski will have to keep their places despite disappointing display’s last time out.

Striker: Yaya Sanogo did okay in the FA Cup match but Olivier Giroud should be fresher after his rest and will be able to cope better against the physical West Ham side.

Here’s how my team looks on paper:

Hopefully we can get through this game with three points and recuperate in time to face Hull on Sunday, with Ozil potentially giving us a major boost by returning to the squad.

What team would you go with tomorrow?

I wouldn’t risk koscielny for west ham. He has juz come back and its better nt to rush him in again. I would bring him on a sub if arsenal leads by a two goal margin. Sagna is too stagnant recently. Maybe he’s tired. Otherwise the line up is gd. Giroud on top ? He’s better than sanogo.

I wish wenger wud change the formation next season to a 3-5-2.

    Szczesny

    Koscielny Mertesacker Vermealen

    Bender/Flamini
    Ramsey
    Ozil/Rosicky

    Walcott Rues
    Podolski
    Costa/drmic

No more full backs. They never do the job of a full back well at all. Its abt time we scrap the full backs system. They spend 90% of their time in the oppositions half attacking rather than defending. If sagna leaves fine. I wud play gibbs on the left wing position in a very tough match. Cause gibbs can then track back a little and support the back three. Wenger buy Rues, bender and whatever top class striker u want.

why not continue with the 4-4-2? This time slot Podolski in with G.O.?
Reason, Podolski never played as a lone striker…he needs to be feed the ball, would not need to defend so much.
    So,
    Poldi/O.G.
    Caz/Kal/Arte/Roz
    Gib/Ver/Met/Sag
    Szcz

That’s what I’m sayin in 3-5-2 let poldi play as the second striker. Let him play him play behind the main striker. He did that for the national team for a long time. He will be bloddy effective if he plays as the second striker. Poldi has never been a lone striker. And at times he could he could interchange positions with reus. Arsenal with the 3-5-2 will be very balanced nd will nt crumble in the way they always do. When the opposition plays on the counter attack. We at least hve four players to defend. Koscielny Mertesacker Vermealen and bender/flamini to defend. That way we don’t get exposed at all.

I’m confused cause both sanogo and giroud couldn’t hit a barn with a bazooka.

raul you are making real sense wenger should really change his his game plan and start using 3-5-2 formation. Thats the same formation at.madrid spanish leader is using and with the likes of diego costa, reus/remy upfront arsenal would be unstopable next season…. Hot

Thanks alvin. I prefer three Cbs at the back nd our full backs cause we seem to be very easily beaten because our full backs pretend they r attacker rather than defenders.

Pardon. I mean I don’t want full backs in the defence. I want juz plain old CBS like koscielny mertesacker and Vermealen will rock. I’m sure they will and with likes of rues walcott costa ozil ramsey podolski upfront. Arsenal will be a very very tough team to beat.
