Confirmed: Highly-Rated Defender Signs Contract With Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed on Arsenal.com this afternoon that highly-rated defender Julio Pleguezuelo has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old joined our youth academy from Barcelona last summer and has featured for both the Under-18s and Under-19s this season, while he’s already a Spanish youth international.
His assured displays at the back helped Arsenal reach the UEFA Youth League quarter finals this season while he’s also been part of the side that’s made it to the last four of the FA Youth Cup, where we must now beat Chelsea over two legs to reach the final.
Pleguezuelo was highly sought after when we managed to lure him away from Barcelona so it’s great to hear he’s committed his long term future to the club by signing his first professional contract today.
The youngster has great pace for a defender and is excellent in the air, so hopefully he’s going to continue his development over the next couple of years and push for a place in the first team squad.
