Rumours Say Wenger Told The Players He’s Leaving After Chelsea Loss

By on March 23, 2014

Rumours are gathering pace suggesting that Arsene Wenger could leave Arsenal when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Firstly, the Daily Mail reported on Sunday morning that well-placed sources at the Emirates have indicated to them that the boss was giving serious consideration to his future after Saturday’s humiliation at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman did appear to indicate the Chelsea match was a defining moment for both him and the club, and the newspaper suggests that Arsene is feeling the pressure after nine trophy-barren years and could be ready to call time on his Arsenal career.

Some journalists on Twitter then suggested they had heard whispers that something was going on behind the scenes at the Emirates following the news that Wenger had cancelled his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game against Swansea.

Then came the BIG news, with Arsenal Action tweeting that Arsene told the players in the dressing room after the Chelsea game that he was leaving in the summer and asked them to play for him until the end of the season. Players were supposedly told not to use any social media networks but have let slip to family members, which could be how the news (if true) has leaked.

Here are the tweets:

Obviously this is all speculation at this point, and Arsenal Action are known to be anti-Arsene, but if there is anything in it I’m sure it will be in the newspaper before long.

Personally, I’m skeptical. I really don’t think Arsene would make a rash decision on his future immediately after a 6-0 loss. He’s an intelligent man and a procrastinator, he would have given himself time to think things over. Not make a quick decision like that.

But who knows. Maybe the Chelsea loss was the final straw for him and he realised he can’t take this squad any further. There’s got to be a reason he hasn’t signed his new deal yet….

What do you think? Would you be sad to see Arsene go? Or is it time for a change?

Imagine Jose winning a title with Wenger’s budget? You can’t
Mourinho would’ve won nothing in England without outspending EVERY other team like he did. He has actually underachieved in europe with Chelsea with Avram Grant & DiMatteo having better records than him.
And for the record – he’s won NOTHING this season yet and is with Arsenal’s game in hand is just 4pts in front. Get a grip!

A lot of nonsense. Wenger has NEVER beaten Mourinho in a game of football. Did Aston Villa have more money than Arsenal to beat Chelsea a week ago? Did West Brom and West Ham get draws at Chelsea this season because they have more money than Arsenal?
Plenty of managers of clubs with less money than Arsenal have beaten Mourinho at least once. So why not Wenger? Nothing to do with money.

Arsenal have to win that game in hand to be four points behind. Jose won a champions League with 2nd and 3rd division portuguese players. The reason West brom and West ham got results against Chelsea is they have more guts. Arsen Wenger we want you to stay ….Up the blues KTBFFH!

So where did luiz, ramires come from?
Falco was there, cavani? Di maria.
correct me if I’m wrong… anyones nan would have won trophies with that porto team..
Look how good real madrid are now,
            Since he was sacked.
The whole of spain is a happier place since he left..

Can’t blame you because if Wenger leaves, then his power and influence will also leave which might eventually pave way for Usmanov who is far richer than your sugar daddy.

Mr wenger was a top class manager several years ago now he is just a great accountant his job is not to make the club millions in profit it is to build and coach a team who can compete at the highest level and win trophies not just qualify in fourth place year in year out under him in our last time in a league cup final we couldn’t beat a team who at the time were not only at the bottom of the league but who were relagated

Wenger is a specialist in failure . Incompetent in transfer window. Chelsea buy matic, we buy kallstrom. We have worst strike force in entire premier league. Let him. F off to france and that slapper rapper he s shagging out there

I for one won’t shed any water, sorry, tear if he’s leaving. This guy thinks he can do no wrong. He once said he had 30 years coaching experience and did not need a defence coach. After the heavy defeats by Pool and MC,he hasn’t learned anything.
Instead its business as usual with his attacking leaving yawning gaps
which even a Viking would find irresitable not to take adavantage.
He is like Keegan: you score one ,I’ll score two mentality.
He has to go asap otherwise Arsenal could scrap to get into the Europa league.

    Bullshit rumours,
most of the players have renewed their contracts,
On the word that wenger is renewing his.

The more believable story, would be that,
Wenger gave all the players a bollocking and told them, if they play like that again, then he will leave at the end of the season.

I am really short of words. Being spanked 6-3, 5-1, 6-0 in a season is quite unacceptable. We want quick response from the coach and d players. And if AW thinks he’s had enough, life goes on. We can’t have him 4ever.

    March 24, 2014 at 3:48 am

The problem is his style of football requires others to play his way ie you attack /I attack.Of course teams who want to win like Chelsea/MU/Hull park the bus and hit on the counter. At the same style they stifled the gunners.
Until he gets it into his head that they won’t play his way,the gunners will continue to flounder. This season Arsenal really had agood chance to win the epl.He goofed it and must pay the price and leave asap otherwise Arsenal could not even finish 4th.

If Wenger stays, you will always be talking about the past, because he is yesterdays man. He is mister nice guy for the players and a genius for the making the club money, but he will continue to be a disappointment for supporters who are entitled to be proud of the club again. He is an absolute joke in the transfer market and still only relies on Giroud up front.

I think kroneke should be the fast to go ,the squad is thin we just cant buy; give me one top player you would want to see at arsenal ,can we even pay them,
secondly tym to change a our system of play, swansea is a smeller team but with abillity to change the game wen need arise ,do we?
thirdly if wenger cant buy n dont see the need to, he should park! he knew how badly we needed a striker to give as just ten goal to asure arsenal a title shot .

finaly we av lost all important and away big games 6-3, 5-0 and now 6-0 for some reason we alwaiz loose champion league games at home , i think every arsenal fan know how he would approaich us given a chance to manage another team againsr us ( let arsenal play the beautful game ,relax wait till they lose the ball ,break get a goal relax n wait again.) change strategy

Asking for Arsene’s blood is way bit off!
The team first and foremost the ‘culprits’ for the loss to Chelsea or for that matter all games on the pitch (period)!
The club MUST delve into the transfer window and purchase at least 4 to 5 critical and proven professionals … then Arsenal can be condidered title contenders!

Well, I think AW has lost ideas. So we need a change, new manager- new ideas. The players are not match fit unlike liverpool players that will make there opponent work till 90mins. So Arsenal needs new ideas & philosophy.

    March 24, 2014 at 1:36 pm

I’ve been saying for the past 3 years he needs to go. Over the past 5 years the whole philosophy of football has changed. Wenger hasn’t changed and is to stubborn to change. He has no plan B, only plan A. It’s not just the heavy defeats we have suffered this season. The Stoke game was a perfect example. Everyone knows Stoke are a physical side and they won’t let you have time on the ball to pick out passes. From the kick off Stoke pressed us and instead of changing the way we play Wenger stuck to plan A of trying to hold up the ball and pick out passes. Yes most teams park the bus against us. They know that we will just sit in front of their goal area passing the ball from left to right and back again until we lose possession. It’s been like that for the past 9 seasons. Wenger won’t change. He’s taken the team as far as he can. Thanks for the good years Wenger but your time is done.

      March 24, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Another point. If he does stay don’t bet your house on any of that £100 million at his disposal being spent on a top class striker. There will only be 2 or 3 very average players bought. (Don’t mention Ozil. He was a panic buy to try to keep the fans quiet after losing to Villa)

At last. Happy days are here again if that sorry, past-his-sell-by-date imbecile masquerading as Arsenal’s manager nowadays is leaving.
I salute you Wenger, if you can please take your sorry ass, together with Diaby, Sanogo and Giroud across the English Channel.
We have had enough of your crap. And don’t bother even if you don’t win the FA Cup — just as long as you and your hospital boys leave the shores of fair England.

Comparing Arsenal to Liverpool players has no. Liverpool are only playing in the league, they didn’t even make Europa league, they were out of league and FA Cup earlier. So when they play on Saturdays, they have the whole week to recover unlike Arsenal that’s in Europe and FA Cup. Next season when Liverpool play in Europe will be a perfect time to judge them. But actually agreed that unless Wenger changes his tactics in transfer market and on the pitch, this is what would be repeated year in year out. Our training method has also been criticised of late suggesting that it’s one of the reasons our players get injuries frequently. So unless these things: Transfer market approach, training methods and tactics on the pitch we’re doomed. The only way to other solution is for the manager to go, the level of which I don’t want the situation to reach.

The problem with Mr Wenger is that he still thinks that he could win titles with the system he played during his first five years with Arsenal. English football was more or less in Nadir and the system was to kick the ball upfield. The system has now changed and everyone is playing the Wenger passing game with the difference that are still capable of playing a defensive game when playing away or superior teams. Wenger had the material to have played that game is he only played Flamini and Vermealen instead of Arteta and the Ox with the Ox and Bnagry playing instyead of Giraud and Polosky.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ARSENE…BUT IT’S TIME TO MOVE ON!

I never believed I could ever echo the above caption… but these are reality times and stuffs like sentiment should fly out of the window.

Agreed…Chelsea has a better team, better squad and a better tactician…still, Wenger got his approach all wrong! When I saw the line-up, I screamed. Wenger hasn’t learnt a thing about his worst enemy, Mourinho!

Without Ozil, Walcott, Ramsey and Wilshere, Arsenal was hugely depleted squaring up against the most physical side in Europe. Yet, Wenger lined up Ox-Chamberlain deep to anchor a box-to-box role with the likes of Matic and Luiz waiting to shove him easily off the ball!

Playing against a top opposition on their turf, the first rule should be safety…leaving out Flamini, the best battling defensive midfielder, on the bench was calling for trouble. And trouble Wenger got in multiple folds!

I would have lined out Szcz, Sagna, Vermalean, Mert, Koscielny, Flamini, Arteta, Chamberlain, Gnabry and Giroud… The threesome – Podolski , Rosicky and Gibbs would have waited on the bench. By lining out how he did, it’s clear Le Prof never appreciated the real quality of the Chelsea squad.

Six conceded against City, five against Liverpool and six again today…Arsenal are suddenly being made a laughing stock of! And it just can’t continue.

Wenger has more than achieved by managing Arsenal through all the difficult times to this era but clearly, the Frenchman lacks the tactical acumen required by the dictates of the modern game to put Arsenal on the adequate competitive plain for the new era.

He should quietly retire at the end of the season and hand over to a more adventurous manager, who is ready to take risks, sign physically imposing players to act as protectors to the bunch of supremely talented artists he already acquired for the club.

We already lost Pep Guardiol to Bayern…but the search for Le Prof’s successor should start in earnest!

    COYG!

This was my comment immediately after the match and I stand on it.

I think some of our fans don’t even listen to news! How can one be wishing for Usmanov to take over at Arsenal when there are threats of sanctions against him and Abrahmovic as a result of the Russian annexation of Crimea? Isn’t this a shame? No wonder some of our self-styled fans reason in very perverted ways. Perhaps you haven’t learnt from those clubs that have changed managers so often like Spurs and instead things have moved from bad to worse. I understand may top clubs including Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid, Monaco and the French national team would warmly welcome Wenger as their coach. Are some of you, therefore, serious to wish him to leave Arsenal? Who do you think would make miracles with our shoe string budget? I am very disgusted with those who live in illusions! Please save our club from your lack of correct assessment and short-sightedness.

He is not immortal and be Arsenal manager for the rest of time. It’s the likes of yourself who revel in his failures that hold the club back from progressing.
      Lets look at this differently.
Everything from the top down to the manager stinks. Kroenke is a money man. He has no interest in the football side of things. He just see’s the £££ signs. Do you ever see Kroenke at games cheering on his team? In fact do you ever see him?
Gazidis is quite happy to do just enough to see the money keep rolling in. Spending money on big name players and paying their wages means there’s less money in his and Kroenke’s back pocket. It’s better to have average players on smaller wages. If a player turns into a quality player and wants to leave to win trophy’s then sell them on for a profit. Even if it is to your rivals.
This is where Wenger comes into play. Kroenke and Gazidis use Arsenal as a cash cow. They then say to Wenger you take all the flak for it and we’ll see you are looked after. Wenger is the highest paid person at Arsenal.
We have huge new sponsorship deals. Raising ticket prices. Off season tours and the Emirates cup that raise a huge amount of revenue. Where does all this money go because it’s not being spent on strengthening the team???
At the start of transfer window Gazadis says we have money to buy quality players. Wenger then bids ridiculously under priced bids for players that he knows won’t be accepted. At the end of the transfer window Gazidis says I said the money was there and Wenger says I put in bids. The money stays in the bank and we are in the same boat again playing for Champions league qualification.
What annoys me is we sold our best players and didn’t replace them.
Kroenke and Gazidis are syphoning money out of the club and the worst crime of all is Wenger is supporting them. And you support Wenger.
      Just saying.

one area i only blame wenger is his unwilling mind to buy, pay, and how he let players go. but i believe he still got what it takes to win and bring us back to bragging. vieira, henry, ashley, cesc etc were jewels in the club’s crown but wenger is the true king of the emirates. when they left it was just one of those things to us fans. the departure of arsene would be almost everything, a disaster much more than these drubbings that can b avenged by a goal’s margin next season.
