Arsenal Midfielder Set For Early Injury Comeback

By on February 13, 2014

It looks like we might get a look at our January signing earlier than expected with reports claiming that Kim Kallstrom will recover from his back injury sooner than initially though.

Kallstrom was something of a surprise addition last month, with Arsene Wenger signing the experienced midfielder on loan from Spartak Moscow on deadline day.

The boss claims he moved for the 31-year-old as he was left short in midfield following Aaron Ramsey’s set back which ruled him out for another six weeks. So it came as something of a surprise when we learned that Kallstrom was also out for up to six weeks with a back injury that the club knew about when we signed him.

This move by Wenger baffled many fans as we had basically signed Kallstrom to replace Ramsey, but knowing that he could potentially be out injured for as long as the Welshman.

However, we could see the Swedish international a little sooner than expected with the Mirror reporting that Kallstrom has been to see former England national team doctor, Leif Sward, at his clinic in Gothenburg and the club are now understood to be confident he’ll be available quicker than first thought.

I’m still scratching my head over Kallstrom’s signing but i suppose while Rambo is still out it will be useful to have another body available in midfield. Whether he’s going to have any real positive effect on the first team remains to be seen though, as he’s going to have to not only get his fitness back up but also adapt to the Premier League. By the time that’s happened, Ramsey will probably be back, so it’s going to be interesting to see how Wenger uses him during the closing stages of the season.

There’s no indication when he will return, but the Mirror simply claim the club are confident it will be sooner than the original six week prognosis. It’s already been two weeks, so we could have news of him returning to light training within the next fortnight.
