RATINGS: My Rating’s From Arsenal’s Shambolic 5-1 Loss To Liverpool

By on February 8, 2014

What a disaster. We started slowly once again and this time, we paid the price. No team who’s got hopes of winning the Premier League should find themselves 4-0 down after 19 minutes.

We at least made something of a fight of it in the second half but Liverpool were playing in second gear, otherwise we could easily have shipped 8.

Here are my ratings, this isn’t going to be pretty:

Szczesny – 5/10 – He may have conceded five goals but he was nowhere near our worst performer. Szczesny was offered no protection whatsoever and could do little about the goals.

Sagna – 3/10 – Terrorised by Sterling all game and was caught out of position on more than one occasion.

Mertesacker – 2.5/10 – His lack of pace was badly exposed today by a lively attack of Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling. Let’s hope it was a rare off day.

Koscielny – 3/10 – All over the place, along with the rest of the team. Didn’t do enough to prevent Skrtel scoring the vital second goal and was generally awful.

Monreal – 2.5/10 – Looked terrified to even be on the pitch. Wanted to come off after it was 3-0, and he got his wish in the 60th minute when it was 5-0.

Arteta – 3/10 – Offered zero protection to the defence and was completely over-run by a faster and more energetic Liverpool side.

Wilshere – 5/10 – He was clearly not 100% fit but at least he looked like he was actually trying at times. Was one of the select few who were keen to get attacks going.

Oxlade-Chamberlain – 5/10 – Like Wilshere, The Ow also at least putting some effort in. He had a couple of speculative shots and won the penalty.

Cazorla – 3.5/10 – Was very quiet by his standards as we offered next to nothing in attack.

Ozil – 2/10 – Gave away possession for two of the goals in the first half and generally looked like he didn’t give a shit. He’s been getting a lot of stick on Twitter, some is over the top, but you can’t deny that we needed him to step up today and he failed to do so.

Giroud – 2.5/10 – Offered little service but when he did see the ball, he failed to do anything with it and his touch and hold-up play was non-existent.

Subs:

Podolski / Rosicky / Gibbs – 4/10 – Thrown to the wolves in the 60th minute when we were 5-0 down.

An embarrassing day and Arsenal should refund the away fans their money. Thankfully, we have a huge game on Wednesday and have the opportunity to put this result behind us when Manchester United come to the Emirates. An immediate response is required or our season could unravel very quickly.

What were your ratings from the game?

This result again shows up the problem with this team, no specialist defence mid fielder , Ozil is a luxury player who over the past couple of months has given nothing any one else would have Ben dropped. Looking down the barrel of another trophy less season nine years and counting.

Well said my brother; our tight fisted Professor of economics, doubling as a near-lifetime manager of our trophyless club is apparently too preoccupied with making a profit for d board than putting a consistent smile on the faces of millions of Arsenal’s fans! What a shame!..It’s only AW that can accept the offer of an injured player in mid season (b/cos it was a cheap acquisition)with so many key players injured or suspended!…If u have a risk factor of depression, heart attack or complications of high blood pressure, pls shed the tag of “Gunners for life” now or it may be too late by the end of the month!..What a reality check match @ Anfield!!!

Fair ratings. I would have Giroud slightly higher due to the two (half) chances he set up for Ozil and Santi. Terrible performance though, pace always comes back to bite us! City most obviously, Southampton most recently and now Liverpool most damagingly. I’ve seen a lot of people saying Flam wouldn’t have helped but I think he would have added more in midfield breaking up play than Arteta did. Giroud isolated. Response needed from the lads next week, we’ve been here before and responded well.

Arsenal’s mentality is like a house of cards, comes crushing down ever time they experience a gust of wind. Happened every time they needed to show some winning mentality and steel…. Against City, Everton, Man utd, Southampton n Liverpool. No more trophies till we get a tactically savvy manager, who does not control the board and appoint the CEO

You mugs are shambolic supporters! You experience an embarrassing loss and you immediately turn on your manager and your club. Another trophyless season…until we get a tactically savvy manager, no trophies…what a bunch of wimps. You’re in 1st place (or were up until this game) FFS! When you were winning, I did not see any damning of AW or his tactics. Now, all of a sudden, he is no longer tactically savvy. Jesus! Wake up and smell the coffee. Every team has a bad day at the office. Show some back bone and support your club and stop your crying. Woeful!

    COYS!

Arsenal’s form is dropping at the wrong time of the year. Against Newcastle they were lucky and Southampton they got a point but Liverpool’s dynamic attack was too much. Munich players and manager would’ve been watching that with a big smile. Walcott is probably the biggest miss of all as Arsenal lack pace.

This is a good lesson for Arsenal which had become complacent! It is a wake up call for the team. Fortunately there is still time to make amends starting with Man U. This was Slowly coming because lately our team was not doing well. This indictment also includes the manager who had come to believe it was our right to win games regardless of how well we played. Instead of moaning let us go out and right today’s shambolic performance against Man U and the subsequent games. If we respond adequately the damage might not be that much after all we are still second on the table. Some players like Ozil and Monreal might need to be benched so that they can be refreshed. The same treatment meted out to Scezneszy and Vermaelen last season should apply to whoever has been under-performing without any mercy. This will instill a new spirit into the team.

Football now most be played with some physicality. Arsenal don’t shoot from outside and no team will allow you to go in. Wenger is not a good manager for now. Because his skills are outdated for winning any trophy. No striker

The reality is this was Arsenal’s biggest chance to win Tha league, they won’t with such naive tactics. Am sorry but how do you play Jack with the Ox as a pair at Anfield, who were bullied off the ball so many times, cazorla and ozil included till i lost count. with Liverpool’s attacking trio of Suarez, Sterling and Sturridge all on the pitch? This is suicidal! Do u know Liverpool has scored more goals than 19 of the 20 premier league teams? It totally exposed our defence and consequently Arteta could not spray the passes to keep our engine moving, as he had to track the runs of the aforementioned trio.

No way Jose, Fergie Guardiola could have fielded such a light weight midfield. In todays world you need power and tactically adept players to win you games. From Viera, Bergkamp, Gilberto, Yaya, Matic, Lampard, Parlour, Javier Martinez, Carrick, Edu, Roy Keane, Simeone, Marcherano, Busquets, etc. This are champion players who are never BULLIED OFF THA BALL… NEVER. This is what we need, just look at the running power Chelsea displayed at City, explaining why Mata didn’t cut it for Jose, and its ni wonder we have “Mata” like players all ova tha pitch… Wondering how many players will make the grade if ever Jose took over, food for thought.

i put all tha blame on wenger!i dnt understand why he cnt give us a striker who puts tha ball on the net!he always favours giroud and he does nothing!i wonder he’s his son, relative or what!!?he has played all the games but he can’t score atleast 20 goals!why shouldn’t he give us falcao or costa!!?we don’t have a “striker!”we need a proffessional striker!all that wenger cares is nothing but money!we need trophys!

I wrote on the BBC website 7 years ago that we would never again win anything under Wenger and I haven’t changed my mind. No captain, no spine, no hunger…totally agree with the ratings they may even be generous!! Ozil is a massive disappointment – his sulk at the City game has continued. Arteta is a mid table team player and shouldn’t even be at Arsenal. Rosicky should have started yesterday and Gnabry or Podolski and its comforting to see that Wenger maintains his long tradition of players like Grimandi, Cygan, Sylvestre, Jeffers, Luzhny, Steppanovs in the wonderful example that is Nacho Monreal !!! What in the name of Jesus is he doing at our club. Two words, no ambition…if Chelsea are a little horse we are a lame donkey !!! In Arsene we rust.

Shalom. Never put your money on Arsenal. There is no Ronaldo Falcao,Viera,or Casilas in Liverpool, yet they fumbled. Champions don’t play like that.
