“We Are Discussing With The Representatives Of Arsenal, They Are Very Interested”
The agent of Cheikhou Kouyate has revealed he is in talks with Arsenal and claims the club are ‘very interested’ in signing the Anderlecht defender.
Kouyate is a name many of you may know already as he’s been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent transfer windows. In fact, a move was meant to have been agreed in the summer but it fell through at the last minute due to work permit issues.
The 24-year-old has since been granted a Belgian passport meaning he’s free to move to any European club and it appears we’ve now renewed our interest in the centre-back.
The players agent, Saffet Balkan, has been quoted in the Mirror as saying that he is in talks with both Arsenal and Liverpool, but claims that we hold the most serious interest and with Man City and Southampton also in the running, he believes his client will be sealing a switch to the Premier League soon.
“We are discussing with the representatives of Arsenal and Liverpool, in particular the first are very interested in him,”
“I also had contact with Manchester City and Southampton, so he’s very likely to arrive in the Premier League shortly.”
A centre-back isn’t really considered as a high priority for many fans at present but with the long-term future of Thomas Vermaelen in serious doubt, it’s possible that Kouyate is viewed as a potential replacement for the Belgian international.
There looks to be some serious competition for his services, but his agent seems to suggest we’re leading the race so you never know, he could be our first January signing.
