RATINGS: My Ratings From Arsenal’s 2-0 Win Over Fulham

By on January 18, 2014

We weren’t at our best once again, particularly in the first half when we barely got out of first gear, but managed to secure another three points thanks to a second half double from Santi Cazorla to keep us top of the league.

Here are my ratings:

Szczesny 6.5/10 – Decent save from a powerful Sidwell effort in the 26th minute and came well off his line to deny Kacaniklic, but was lucky to get away with an error at the death that saw Bent miss an open goal.

Sagna 7/10 – Solid again. His crosses were hit and miss but he was always keen to get forward and join the attack as we pushed for the breakthrough.

Mertesacker 7/10 – Not really tested too much by a rather limp Fulham attack. Comfortable days work.

Koscielny 7.5/10 – A rock again. Made one stunning interception that would have led to a clear chance on goal for the visitors and did enough to put Bent off in the last minute, but Kos was guilty of missing an open goal just before we broke the deadlock.

Monreal 7.5/10 – Very adventurous down the left and was always linking up with the likes of Cazorla and Ozil. Crossing was suspect at times but another promising display from the Spaniard.

Flamini 7/10 – Cleaned up in front of the defence and put in some excellent tackles.

Wilshere 7/10 – Some lovely interplay with Ozil early on and he superbly set up Cazorla’s opening goal with a clever pass.

Cazorla 8/10 – Lovely finish for the opener and drilled in the second from the edge of the area. A match winning performance in the second half, and he needed it after a couple of quiet weeks recently.

Ozil 6.5/10 – Almost opened the scoring but Hangeland cleared off the line. The German endured a mixed game. His passing was uncharacteristically poor at times but then he’d come to life with a killer ball.

Gnabry 7/10 – Wasn’t afraid to have a pop at goal, that’s for sure! He wasn’t always accurate, but he did go close twice and showed off some excellent footwork.

Giroud 6.5/10 – Played his part in the opener with a neat pass into Wilshere but he certainly didn’t have his shooting boots on. Giroud put at least two efforts high and wide when he should have tested the keeper.

Subs:

Podolski 7/10 – Positive introduction. Went close once before smashing the post with a hammer left-footed effort.

The Oxe – N/A

So another three points in the bag and we were able to find a way through despite not being at our best. We do need to try and come out the blocks a lot quicker though. Coventry up next.
