VIDEO: Spurs Youngster Stamps On Monreal – Will The FA Take Action?
A lot has been made of Theo Walcott’s ‘score-line’ gesture towards the Tottenham supporters during our 2-0 win at the Emirates on Saturday.
There has been uproar among the Spurs fans while many headlines in the newspapers chose to concentrate on the ‘indecent’ over the fact we had just totally outplayed our great rivals to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The media seems to be driving an agenda that could very-well see Theo called before the FA to explain his actions and potentially handed a fine or ban.
However, perhaps the FA, fans and the media should also be taking a look at another incident from yesterday’s game that saw Spurs youngster Nabil Bentaleb clearly try to stamp on Nacho Monreal’s hand:
Arsene Wenger said after the game that Monreal claimed Bentaleb had actually caught him, and there was clearly intent.
As the referee failed to see the incident, there is no reason why the FA shouldn’t take retrospective action against the midfielder and slap him with a three game ban for violent conduct.
But will they? Probably not. Because it’s not splashed all over the back pages and Sky Sports haven’t made it a central talking point of the game. Instead, don’t be surprised if Walcott gets charged for smiling while making a ‘2-0’ gesture with his hands in response to the abuse he was receiving from the away end.
And they say there is no media agenda against certain clubs? Do me a favour…..
