Revealed: Patrick Vieira’s Arsenal Dream XI – Agree With His Team?
He may be at Manchester City now but Patrick Vieira is still an Arsenal legend in my eyes and the former skipper has chosen his all-time Arsenal dream-team as part of a television documentary called ‘Keane and Vieira: The best of enemies’.
With Roy Keane taking his opportunity to have yet more digs at Fergie, Giggs and Neville, Vieira opted to show more respect to Arsenal and spoke highly of his former team mates.
In goal he went for David Seaman above the ‘invincible’ Jens Lehmann, while Lauren perhaps surprisingly got the nod over Lee Dixon at right-back.
The rest of the team is fairly obvious with Tony Adams alongside Sol Campbell and Ashley Cole at the back, and Vieira put himself alongside his French compatriot Emmanuel Petit in midfield.
Bobby Pires was another obvious choice but for me the big decision was whether to go with Freddie Ljungberg or Marc Overmars. It’s a bit of a 50:50 toss up but Paddie went with the red-haired Swede in the end.
In attack Vieira had a pretty simple task of choosing Thierry Henry to play alongside Dennis Bergkamp to compete a formidable looking line-up.
Personally, I’d have gone with Dixon and Overmars on the right hand side, but it’s certainly a close call between them and Lauren and Ljungberg.
While the 2013 version of Arsenal is flying high at present, this side has everything. Pace, power, leadership, guile and goals. I would love to see how this lot would fair in the league nowadays. Or should I say; I’d love to see how many points this lot would win the league by.
What do you make of Vieira’s team? What would your Arsenal dream team be?
