“You Have Big Clubs Like Arsenal, It’s A Dream To Play For Them”

By on November 20, 2013

Highly-rated German starlet Julian Draxler has revealed that Arsenal are one of his ‘dream’ clubs and he’d love to play in England one day as the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world.

The 20-year-old is widely regarded as the next ‘big thing’ in Germany and he has already racked up over 120 appearances for Schalke despite his tender years.

His obvious talent has seen him linked with a number of clubs throughout Europe with Arsenal among those said to be interested. Newspapers claimed in the summer that we failed with a bid to sign him with the youngster saying he wanted to remain in Germany for at least one more year to boost his chances of making the German World Cup squad.

However, a future move to England certainly seems to be on the cards for the exciting attacker after he revealed his admiration for the Premier League and named Arsenal as one of his ‘dream’ clubs.

“I like English football. I like the Premier League of course – it’s one of the best leagues in the world,”

“You have big clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea – of course it’s a big dream to play for one of them. I have my favourite team, but at the moment I’m at Schalke. I don’t want to talk about other clubs.

“If I state Arsenal or Manchester United, maybe I’d read it tomorrow in the newspapers.” Draxler is quoted as saying by the Express.

Obviously we’d face some serious competition from Chelsea and Man Utd, but we’d have as good a chance as anyone of signing Draxler when he decides he wants a new challenge. In fact, I’d bet my mortgage he would choose us over those two. I’m not suggesting others should follow this betting strategy, I’m just saying I’m confident we’d be able to sign him ahead of Chelsea or United if he wanted a move to England.

We have a growing number of German players in the squad with experienced pro’s like Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil as well as youngsters like Serge Gnabry and Thomas Eisfeld, so Draxler would feel right at home at the Emirates.

Having your fellow countrymen around you helps with the settling in period and Ozil has been out-spoken on how great it’s been to have the likes of Per and Lukas around the club. Chelsea have a couple of Germans but not the number we have, while United don’t have any notable German players in their ranks.

We also have the money now to compete with the big-boys and can match the wages that Chelsea and United could offer. In previous years we’d have had no chance of competing for the top talent, but we proved with the signing of Ozil we’re ready to mix it with the big boys for the elite players.

The main problem is going to persuade Schalke to sell as he’s still under contract contract until 2017. The Bundesliga club aren’t going to let the youngster go without a fight but he’s too valuable an asset for them not to cash in eventually, and when they do I think we’ll have a great chance of signing him.

Do you rate Draxler? Could we sign him?
