PLAYER RATINGS: Arsenal 2-0 Fenerbache: Rambo Superb Again

By on August 27, 2013

Champions League qualification is secured after a comfortable 2-0 win over Fenerbache. Aaron Ramsey was the hero again with another all-action display that included two well-taken goals.

Unfortunately, the game was over-shadowed by yet more injury concerns. Lukas Podolski was forced off with a hamstring concern, Jack was targetted for some rough treatment and was hobbling near the end with an ankle knock and Rambo went off early with what looked like a groin problem.

With Tottenham coming to the Emirates on Sunday and our squad paper thin already, injuries are the last thing we needed tonight. Fingers crossed we have good news on the trio over the coming days. But it does raise the question why more changes weren’t made?

Here are my ratings from the game:

Szczesny 7/10

Up and down game for the Pole. He made some excellent stops including a great reflex save early on after some sloppy play by Jenks, then a superb double save shortly before half-time, turning a powerful shot onto the post before a point-blank stop. But he flapped at a cross midway through the first half and was lucky to get away with it then came charging off his line and could have given away another penalty (if the striker hadn’t dived!).

Jenkinson 7/10

Caught in possession on the edge of his own box which almost lead to an early goal, but was enjoying himself down the right during the second half. Went so close to getting his first senior goal but his volley was well stopped.

Monreal 7/10

Very good in the first half and was generally very solid at the back. Crossing was a little suspect though, but we’ve certainly got a more than capable back-up to Gibbsy and he might even push him for the starting spot.

Mertesacker 6/10

Didn’t put a foot wrong and kept the visitors attack pretty quiet. Booked for a rash tackle.

Sagna 6.5/10

Another assured display at centre-back from the Frenchman. He looks so comfortable there, you’d think he’d been playing in the middle all his life.

Wilshere 7/10

Looked to be getting back to full fitness and that little burst of pace was back. Targetted for yet more rough treatment and he looked to have picked up another knock to his ankle. When are the referees going to protect him? It took about five fouls until the ref booked someone.

Ramsey 8.5/10

Another superb display from Rambo. He was everywhere, bossing the midfield and even chipped in with two goals. On hand to tap home the opening goal and made it 2-0 with a superb volley near the end. MOTM

Cazorla 7.5/10

Superb footwork on show again. He just oozes class. He’s so important to our attacking play. Forced a superb fingertip save from Volkan midway through the second half.

Walcott 5.5/10

Not his night really. Couldn’t get himself in the game enough. Was involved in the opener and hit the bar with an audacious free-kick in the second half, but that was about his impact.

Podolski 6.5/10

Lively down the left and was putting a real shift in, but forced off with a hamstring injury early in the second. Really bad luck for the German.

Giroud 7/10

Some excellent hold up play and went close to scoring on a couple of occasions but couldn’t find his goal. Subbed for Sanogo in the 60th minute.

Subs

Sanogo 5/10

Had one chance but blazzed it over. Clearly going to need some time.

Gibbs 7/10

Great impact from the bench and set Ramsey up for the second with an excellent cross.

Miyaichi N/A

Not enough time to make an impact

So Champions League qualification is secured, we picked up more injuries, so Arsene has no more excuses not to go and spend some f**king money! Tick tock…..
