Arsenal To Offer £60m For Duo, Fresh Bids For CM And GK Also Expected

By on August 27, 2013

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are ready to table a £60m double bid for Angel Di Maria and Mesut Ozil as well as submit fresh offers for Yohan Cabaye and Vicente Guaita.

We have been strongly linked with several Real Madrid players in recent weeks and Karim Benzema was understood to be our top target, with Arsene Wenger seemingly desperate to bring in a world class front man this summer. However, it appears any potential move for the Frenchman is over after his agent confirmed the striker had no intention of leaving the Bernabeu.

Madrid still need to sell players to help fund their world record move for Gareth Bale and the Telegraph claim attacking duo Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria are available for a combined fee of £60m and Arsenal are apparently willing to meet this figure.

The newspaper suggests that while Wenger doesn’t necessarily think he needs both players, he feels the opportunity to sign two world class attackers is one too good to turn down and their purchases will make up for missing out on a top class centre-forward.

If we could pull this double swoop off, it would leave us with an array of attacking talent able to play in the roles behind a striker, with Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and even Yaya Sanogo all capable of playing in the main centre-forward position.

The major complication for us is that the deals hinge on Madrid signing Bale, and it seems Tottenham are digging their heels in after their feeling got hurt when the Spaniard’s erected a stage to announce the Welshman’s signing before an official deal had been struck.

Bale is still fully-expected to move to the Bernabeu and has refused to turn up to training today to try and force proceedings, but you wouldn’t put it past them leaving it as late as possible just so it hampered our chances of signing Di Maria and Ozil.

The Telegraph are also reporting that Wenger wants to bring in a new central midfielder and a goalkeeper and will make a fresh bids for Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye and Valencia’s Vicente Guaita this week. However, a new defender looks unlikely after Mathieu Flamini’s agent held talks with Dick Law on Monday and the Frenchman is expected to join on a short-term contract and provide cover for the full-back areas, as well as midfield when required.

If we could bring in Di Maria, Ozil, Flamini, Cabaye and a goalkeeper before the window shuts, I would be one very happy Gooner. The squad would still be light of a world class striker but hopefully the added firepower in the attacking midfield positions would make up for it but we would have to rely on Giroud having a stormer of a season.

I would be highly delighted with those 4 and if we signed casillas then that would do me. However we could still do with rooney.

I wish it were true but i highly doubt it. Wenger being wenger i simply cannot see him bringing in ozil and di maria for 60 million. In fact i highly doubt even cabaye. nufc want 20million and we all know wenger wont pay that.
possibly flamini and guiata(if he can be bought for less than 10 million).
to me more realistic targets would be alderweild and that bulgarian kid

Hang on – we need a DM and a striker, not attacking midfield. Cabaye is a good DM but we need a striker, as our conversion of chances on goal is pretty awful.

Even if Arsenal are willing to spend the 60 million on Di Maria and Ozil, I doubt that either of them are going to move away from RM to come to Arsenal. Unfortunately, the club and Wenger have become a victim of their own past; developing young talent is and should remain a worthy cause but never at the expense of securing world class talent in a hybrid squad. We let all our world class players leave and did nothing to replace them other than with second or in some cases third tier quality players. It says nothing for the ambition of the club which is why Arsene continues to struggle to attract elite players.
If by some miracle he is able to attract one or two signature players, the process of rebuilding confidence amongst the elite will happen this coming season. Fingers crossed because I don’t want our achievement to amount to nothing more than fighting for fourth place (again).

I’m afraid you’re living in dreamland. Its taken us 3 months to watch 3 transfers peter out.

there’s no chance Real would sell 3 of their best players

We urgently need a striker. I dont know why we dont just give Villa 30m for Bentekke. Sango Pongo is out of his depth. I saw him come on at Fulham and he just basically got in the way. Polaski could be out for weeks too now. So a striker is a MUST

We’ll sign one player, maybe Cabaye at 10.58 Monday eve and that will be it.

It is unfortunate that wengers business of the is hurting him now. These players he is sortin after are players who are use to winnin trophies and not fightin for top four.Wengers should be more ambiteous for once or else he wil not even get the top four this time
