Wilshere Claims He Might Leave Arsenal If Wenger Quits
Some interesting quotes have emerged attributed to young Jack Wilshere, with the midfielder claiming he would consider quitting Arsenal if Arsene Wenger ever left the club.
Wilshere has been with us ever since he was 9 years old and is regarded by many as a future captain of the team. He’s seen as the new ‘Mr Arsenal’.
However, with the boss coming under increasing pressure from the fans there are many who would like to see him step down when his contract expires at the end of this forthcoming campaign. But if that were to happen, Wilshere has claimed he would have to consider his own future at the club.
Speaking in the Irish Independent newspaper, Wilshere said:
“I want to win things with Arsenal and I want to be there in the future, but if the boss leaves then things could change,”
Interesting comment to make, and it’s not been received particularly well among Gooners on Twitter this afternoon. Many feel his loyalty should be with Arsenal, not Wenger, but I wouldn’t look too much into it. He’s more reaffirming his faith in Wenger than trying to cast doubt over his future at Arsenal in my opinion.
He goes on to say he’s shown his commitment to the club by signing a five-year contract and says everything if good “at the moment”, before throwing further support behind Wenger:
“Arsenal are always in my heart and by signing a deal for the next five years shows my commitment to them and their commitment to me so at the moment everything is good.
“Arsene Wenger has been there for so many years and he’s always delivered trophies.
“OK we’ve had a little dip in the last five or six years, but he’s a great manager and people who question his ability are ridiculous.
“He’s qualified for the Champions’ League for 16 years so I think he’s the right man for the job.”
Jack also says it’s been difficult to cope with losing star names such as Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas but feels the club has a strong core of young players who are now starting to come of age, and it’s only a matter of time until we start winning trophies again.
“We have lost a few strong, big-name players in recent years and that’s hard for any club,” the 21-year-old England midfielder said.
“First we lost Thierry Henry and then Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin Van Persie.
“That’s hard, especially when Robin went to another team in England, it makes it harder for us to compete.
“But now we’ve got a good crop of young English players coming through and if we stay together and build something then we can win a trophy in the next few years.”
Let’s hope Jack is right. We do have a good group of young British players but they need to be supported by some world class talent as well. Let’s see if Arsene can bring them in before the window closes….
