Wenger Gives Injury Update On Koscielny, Vermaelen and Miyaichi
Arsenal make the short trip across London to take on Fulham on Saturday afternoon and boss Arsene Wenger has given a team news and injury update ahead of the game.
Speaking to the clubs website, Arsene gave the latest on defender Laurent Koscielny after he was forced off against Fenerbache last night with a nasty cut above his right eye.
Wenger said immediately after the game that Kos was taken to hospital for x-rays but it seems he’s been given the all-clear as he could be back in time to face Fenerbache at the Emirates next Tuesday. Thankfully we picked up no other injuries last night but the players fitness will be assessed on Friday and Saturday morning.
Arsene also gave some positive news on Ryo Miyaichi with the Japanese winger now back in training and should be involved in first team matters soon, while Thomas Vermaelen is also back in training but it’s going to take a few weeks until he’s back up to speed.
Here’s what the boss told Arsenal.com:
on Laurent Koscielny…
He’s like a boxer who had a hard fight the night before; lots of blood around his eye and a deep cut. He is suspended for Saturday anyway but let’s hope he recovers for next Tuesday [against Fenerbahce]. It will be short because the cut is very deep. Hopefully it will be alright.
on other team news…
The news is quite positive at the moment. Of course we have some players who I will need to consider because of the accumulation of the international game and then the Premier League and Champions League matches. I will have to make a deeper analysis tomorrow and on Saturday morning.
on Ryo…
He is back in full training now. He will be involved this season in the first-team squad. Hopefully very soon because he’s now getting fit.
on Vermaelen…
He is out running. He’s on the pitches again. But there’s still a good few weeks to go for him to get his fitness. We have Nacho back and Thomas soon back so that’s all good news for us.
So it looks like we’ll be taking a patched up squad to Craven Cottage with no new signings on the horizon yet. Hopefully we can come through that game, get the formality of the second leg against Fenerbache out the way and have a few new additions in the squad when we welcome Spurs to the Emirates next Sunday!
