Wenger: “Suarez Is One Of Our Targets, We Know What We Want To Do”

By on August 9, 2013

Arsene Wenger has been speaking at a press conference in Helkinki ahead of Saturday’s friendly with Manchester City and he’s confirmed that Luis Suarez is still an Arsenal target, despite Liverpool insisting he’s not for sale.

After seeing two bids rejected, Suarez publicly stating he wants to join us and Brendan Rodgers accusing the striker of not respecting LFC, John W Henry insisted on Friday that the Merseysiders will not sell the Uruguayan to Arsenal or any other club this summer.

However, the boss has been speaking on Friday and confirmed that Suarez remains a target, saying ‘if’ the transfer happens it will be done in an amicable way. He says he hasn’t read Henry’s comments but knows Arsenal want to sign him, the player wants to join, but until Liverpool change their stance, we’ll have to respect their decision not to sell.

He told Sky Sports News.

“There is nothing to add to what I said already about the transfer of Suarez.

“If it will be done, it will be done in a respectful and amicable way with Liverpool.

“I didn’t read (Henry’s) statements but we’ll be faithful to the way we want to behave.

“To make a transfer happen, you need the agreement of three parties – the buyer, the seller and the player.

“We know what we want to do. The player, if I look at the statements, (does) as well. Liverpool at the moment do not agree. If they change their minds or not, I don’t know. We’ll respect that.

“We are looking at possibilities to strengthen our squad. Suarez is one of the targets. If he’s not for sale, he’s not for sale, we have to accept that.

“Every club has its own way of dealing with things, we have our way and we respect all the other clubs.”

So it seems we’ve not quite given up hope just yet, despite Liverpool’s insistence that they will not sell. It does make you wonder why Arsene seems to have so much confidence that a deal can still be done.

This ‘clause’ appears to be a dead end, with PFA chief executive Peter Taylor confirming there is no strict buy-out clause, therefore Liverpool are under no obligation to sell.

Of course some say there is no point keeping hold of an unhappy player but there is no guarantee Liverpool will buckle despite Suarez wanting out. Selling the striker to us would be suicide for them, as they’d have no hope of finishing in the top-four next season.

From Arsene’s comments I think it’s safe to assume we’ll be going back in with another bid, but the big questions will be how much and whether it will be enough to persuade Liverpool to sell. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks….

Chaos???? Im a pool fan and to be honest I want him gone. Liverpool have a valuation which hasnt been met yet? Our preseasons gone well and we look like we have strong owners who wont be a push over. Honestly, I believe we wont qualify again for CL. Im okay with that. Id rather we had a team ready to challenge instead of just making up the numbers every year!

Somewhere at the Emirates, there MUST be SOMEONE who understands English (even if that someone is not Wenger…) Suarez isn’t going to be sold this summer. End of…Plaudits for John Henry!

gordon taylor PFA, £40million is a minimum offer for discussions, There is a ‘good faith’ clause in relation to serious discussions.

john henry, we are not going to sell louis, I’m unequivocal that we won’t sell to Arsenal, whatever the bid is we wont sell him to any club for any fee.

maybe suarez has a point, where is the good faith?

good faith doesn’t mean Liverpool have to accept bid they believe to be under the market value

Then why did Liverpool agree to the clause in the contract?? if they think suarez is worth 55m why not have the good faith clause set at 55m.. ??

Is he ‘not for sale’ in the same way john W said Torres was ‘not for sale’?? It’s up to Suarez now. If he really wants to move and will not play for Brenda then he’ll get his move. But he’ll have to make them realise that their better off with the money than they are keeping him.
Although I think he’ll end up at Real rather than the EPL.

I think wenger allways wont to sign in the last day of transfer so by that time we can not gen the top player ,finally wenger sign average player like girud, podlask………bla bla bla so wenger never learn from the past errer so continu like this if wenger out from emirat so suariz never sign for wenger

Pay some 50+ m for LS when we could have retained RvP and still bought in quality. Sometimes it’s painful to see such talent going in clubs who offer a tad more than us!

Inspire of knowing that the manager has honed some world class talent… Just don’t know what is it that players are looking for

I even dont know if LS is the right target for this club… Must admit my heart skipping a beat every time I hear a name linked to us…. Guess I should look at announcement made by AW/AFC after the player has signed !!
