Confirmed: Arsenal Target Stevan Jovetic Heading To Man City In £28m Deal

By on July 18, 2013

Fiorentina have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the sale of one-time Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic.

The Montenegro international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates at the start of the summer, with some reports suggesting we were close to sealing a £25m deal back in early June.

However, a move failed to materialise and Arsene Wenger has since switched his focus to other targets such as Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and more recently Luis Suarez.

Manchester City have now swooped in an continued their spending spree, with Fiorentina confirming today on their official Twitter account @ACF_Fiorentina that a deal has now been agreed between the two clubs that will see Jovetic move to the Etihad this summer:

Which loosely translated means “An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent sale of the player Stevan Jovetic.”

The Serie A outfit didn’t reveal the precise details but the Daily Mail claim City will pay £23m up front and a further £5m in add-ons, making the deal worth a total of £28m.

So another potential striking target has gone. While I was never really too fussed about us signing Jovetic as I thought there were better options out there, the longer Arsenal go without signing a new striker (or any player for that matter), the more potential targets are going to get snapped up.

It looks like we may have a passing interest in Wayne Rooney but all the signs are he’ll be off to Chelsea if he does leave United. That will leave us fighting to sign one of Suarez or Higuain, unless Arsene is targetting another top-drawer striker we don’t know about yet.

Higuain was another that appeared nailed on until Madrid upped the price, with reports today claiming they’re looking for £37m. There’s no chance we’ll pay that, but it seems we’ve got competition with both Chelsea and Napoli understood to be interested.

We’ve had a bid turned down for Suarez but it looks as though Liverpool are going to make our lives difficult and I really don’t think we should be putting all our eggs in one basket and hoping we can persuade the Merseysiders into selling to us. We’re probably the last team they’d want to sell him to, if they have any aspirations of breaking into the top four, so I still can’t see a deal being done this summer. Plus Real Madrid are lurking and they will no doubt be Suarez’s first choice.

So understandably, many Arsenal fans are beginning to get a little concerned at the lack of activity. Its’ not panic stations just yet, there’s still plenty of time left and I’m still backing the club to come through and sign the players we need. However, if Higuain signs for Napoli any time soon then I’ll start to worry, BIG TIME.

If anyone thinks this player is worth anywhere near this amount they are fools. This is more than rvp!! Let’s face it things have gone crazy. £25m seems to be the minimum now if jovetic is worth £28m what the hell does that mean a 22 goal epl player with 17 assists to his name is worth? Theo walcott has to be worth £35m of anyones money now and that is simply ridiculous

A player is worth how much a club is willing to pay. No one at Arsenal with negotiating skills.

Not bothered in the slightest. He’s good but worth £15 mil tops. I think I must be the only Arsenal fan who thinks we’re concentrating on the wrong position. Giroud will have a much better season next season, at least 20 prem goals. Then we have Podolski and theo as proven goal scorers to step in when needed, then we have Sanogo and Akpom as worst case scenario back-ups. We need to a DM as priority but one who can distribute the ball like arteta does. Then possibly as versatile CB to help cover injuries. If we get both of these then I don’t care if we don’t sign another striker.

I do believe we need another striker . Both Podolski and Theo failed down the middle.Giroud is a top class reserve. It is difficult when the big players no longer see Arsenal as top level, which seems to be the case. So for once Wenger will need to get out of his comfort zone and pay up like Dein did in 96 when he bought Bergcamp and told the footballing world we were back in business. No one is going to be impressed if we end up with Chelsea rejects, like Torres, after they get Rooney.Suarez is the man, ghastly little bastard that he may be. If its 40 million so be it . Then yes, I’d like a serious defensive midfielder , but the’re a good deal cheaper

Did we ask his club about him…no
    Did we bid for him..no
Did we talk to him or his agent…no

So where does the news come from that he is or was a target?
Think we have been linked with about 15 players the same players that have been linked with every other club,
Agents and clubs do a great job trying to sell players,,

I think that iqbal is a little behind the news. Liverpool have confirmed that Arsenal made a bid. Most people who underrate Suarez do so at their own peril. This guy scored 23 goals and only RVP scored more and yet he played for a team that was 7th on the table and he missed four games due to a ban, not to mention that he has a very good injury free record. At Arsenal, where chances go begging, he would score more goals.
