Arsenal Table £20m Rooney Bid But Chelsea Expected To Make Counter Offer

By on June 30, 2013

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have tabled a £20m offer for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney but rivals Chelsea are expected to make a counter offer of their own in the coming days.

Many Arsenal fans think our chances of signing ‘Shrek’ are slim, but the Rooney-to-Arsenal stories refuse to go away and it appears we’ve followed up our interest with a firm offer this weekend.

The newspaper claims we’ve opened the bidding for the unsettled 27-year-old with boss Arsene Wenger understood to be desperate to sign Rooney AS WELL as Gonzalo Higuain this summer, but our £20m bid is expected to force Chelsea into action with Jose Mourinho also believed to be keen on taking Rooney to Stamford Bridge.

However, United are adamant Rooney is not for sale, despite him seemingly wanting to leave the club, and David Moyes is hopeful he can persuade the England forward to remain at Old Trafford when the pair meet next week.

Rooney still has two years to run on his £250,000-a-week deal but there have been rumours of a new contract being lined-up by United in the wake of the interest being shown, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the players representatives is leaking our supposed ‘interest’ to the media to push United into offering him a new contract.

If I was a betting man, I’d say we’ll see Rooney sign a new deal at Old Trafford before the summer is out. But it won’t stop the papers linking him with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the meantime.
