Report – Arsenal Set To Test Man Utd With Rooney Bid But Chelsea Also Keen

By on June 28, 2013

It seems we could be set to get the ball rolling on trying to sign Wayne Rooney with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Arsenal are expected to table an opening offer to Manchester United in the coming days.

The local newspaper claims that Rooney is still determined to leave Old Trafford this summer after a difficult campaign last season that resulted in the 27-year-old verbally asking to quit the club.

The departure of Sir Alex Ferguson was touted by some as a ‘fresh start’ for the striker but it appears David Moyes arrival has done nothing to quell Rooney’s desire to move on and the M.E.N claim we are set to start the bidding war for the £25m-rated forward.

United are still hopeful of persuading Rooney to stay but if they do have to sell they’re determined not to sell to a domestic title rival. The M.E.N suggest Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen to take the striker to Stamford Bridge but with the Blues one of the favourites for the title next year, it’s unlikely the bosses at Old Trafford would sanction such a move, while they wouldn’t even entertain selling to Man City.

Therefore, if Rooney wants to remain in the Premier League Arsenal look likely to be his only realistic option as we’ve not been in the title-mix for years. Wages are going to be the main sticking point and I still maintain a deal is highly unlikely, but you just never know.

If he decides to try his luck abroad, the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona are understood to be keen and I personally think if he does leave United, he’ll go overseas. There is also the possibility United will force him to stay but with just two years left on his current contract, that would be a risky strategy, so this summer could be the champions best time to cash-in.

I personally think that these rumours about Wenger signing Rooney are just the usual smokescreen that is put up to cover for any real attempt to try and sign a top player by Wenger. He’s happy with the Emirates Cup ands Champions League football , albeit he never wins the cup.
We see this every season with Wenger making comments about top players that lead to speculation about who he is intending to sign.
I believe that he will sign players, but not ones like Rooney ,so it will just be 4th place again in the league come next May,at best.

Arsene Wenger is just stingy & his a failure to our darling club Arsenal. Why can’t he sign players for us?Instead he goes mentioning a lot of players while other clubs takes advantage to sign all our targets because our so called coach ain’t serious when coming to transfer of players signing or dealings.Only God will help us(Arsenal fans)

If he does come you’ll change your mind and you will love him like he is the second coming of king Henry… I’m sick of mofos like you, you see that things are changed, this is last transfer window before fair-play regulations and it will be the best one so far. You will love Wenger when you see Higuain, Rooney AND Felaini next year, show some positive thinking gunners, The new invincibles are coming ffs 😀 COYG bitches

I don’t think Wanger is a serious Manager, That’s why most High profile players ar reluctant at coming. Year after year players ar threatening to leave. Am honestly tired of this unbridled nihilistic inertia.
