Arsenal Transfer News: Latest On Cesar, Reina, Deulofeu & Williams
As we approach the opening of the summer transfer window fans are desperately searching through the internet for transfer news. Here’s the latest news regarding some of Arsenal’s reported transfer targets this summer including Pepe Reina, Ashley Williams, Gerard Deulofeu and Julio Cesar.
Cesar to Roma?
Just a couple of weeks ago Julio Cesar seemed certain to become Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer. So much so that bookmakers stopped taking bets on the Brazilian moving to the Emirates Stadium.
However, it seems the 33-year-old is mulling over a move back to Serie A with the Sun claiming AS Roma have offered the Brazilian international the chance to return to Italy and it’s a move that appeals to the keeper.
Back in for Reina
With Cesar potentially off to Roma, the Daily Mail are reporting that Arsenal have renewed their interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Reina’s future at Anfield has been thrown into doubt following the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and it seems we’re ready to test the Merseysiders resolve to hang on to the Spaniard. The 30-year-old had been tipped for a return to Barcelona but with Victor Valdes now set to stay and see out the remaining year of his contract, it leaves Reina in a tricky situation.
The Mail claim Arsene Wenger is a huge fan of the Spanish international’s and is now ready to make his move as he looks to bring in an experienced goalkeeper to push Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 shirt next season, and Reina could be available for as little as £10m.
Deulofeu in demand
According to the Star, Arsenal are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu on loan this summer.
The 19-year-old is going to struggle for game-time at the Nou Camp next season and the La Liga champions are keen to ship him out on loan to gain some first team experience at the top level, and it seems the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton are all interested in bringing him to England.
Deulofeu is capable of playing out wide or through the middle and while Barca are believed to be unwilling to let him go on a permanent basis, the Star claim we’re in ‘pole position’ to sign him on a year-long loan deal.
The youngster looks to have a bright future in front of him and bagged 18 goals in 33 games for Barcelona B last season.
Williams in doubt
Finally, the Daily Mail are reporting that Ashley Williams’ proposed move to Arsenal is all-but dead with the club unable to strike a deal with Swansea for the defender.
The Welsh outfit are understood to be demanding £10m for their captain and this is a fee Arsene Wenger is not prepared to pay for a player who’s almost 29 and has little potential sell-on value.
The failure to land Williams could open the door for Thomas Vermaelen to resurrect his career at the Emirates. The Belgian lost his place last season and had been tipped for a move if and when Williams arrived, but now that deal appears off, Vermaelen may not stay and fight for his place.

What do you think of these rumours? Would you like Cesar or Reina to arrive this summer? Would Deulofeu be a useful addition and are you disappointed we wont be signing Williams?
