Belgian Wants Arsenal Move But Board Reluctant To Finance £50m Deal

By on June 25, 2013

Despite all the talk of Arsenal being prepared to spend big this summer, it seems the club still have limits that they’re willing to go to in order to sign proven talent.

A report today from the Daily Mail claims that Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini wants to make the move to north London this summer but the club are apparently unwilling to match his £100,000-a-week wages and stump up the £50m it’s going to take to sign him.

The Belgian is understood to have a £22m release clause in his contract and when you consider a long-term contract worth £100,000-per-week, signing on fees, agents fees, etc, it’s easy to see how the transfer could hit the £50m mark.

Fellaini is reportedly on £75,000-a-week at Everton so it’s understandable that he’d want a pay rise if he was to join us and £100k isn’t unreasonable in today’s market. You can be sure the likes of Chelsea or United will give him that if they come in for him.

The Mail also suggest the 25-year-old wants assurances from Arsene Wenger that he will be played in a central midfield role if he joins, and not deployed as a second striker as he was at Everton last season. I wouldn’t see this being an issue as if we do sign him, I’m certain Wenger will want him as a central midfielder. We’ve already got the likes of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere to play the No.10 role, and lumping it up to a big man isn’t really our game.

I see Fellaini as a powerful box-to-box midfielder who can also play the disciplined holding role when required. Personally, I’d pay what’s required to sign him and I’d get the deal done quickly. We’ve got the money and the player wants to join, so let’s push ahead before someone else comes in and blows us out the water.

Would you pay Fellaini the £100,000-a-week he wants?

This scoop from the almost always wrong Daily Mail is quite a piece of work. If you are prepared to pay what will be a record fee for someone do you then expect him to be about your sixth highest earner? I think not. This from the paper who keep telling us that Wayne Rooney’s wage demands are no problem for Arsensl. The trouble is as lots of sites recycle this garbage people believe the story has authenticity.
Arsenal may not sign Fellaini but it won’t be because he asked for £75k a week.

Fellaini will be the most important player we sign, more so than a striker.

Your headline states that the board will not sanction it , tell me do you have access to the boards decision NO of course you dont. They have just sanctioned Higuian getting a 40% increase in his wages so why would they not sanction Fellaini a 25% increase, This would only take him equal to Wallcott or Podolski so his reqeust ( if it true ) is justified.
Please stop writing information which you can not possibily verify ,no sources. We all no the board is very tight lipped ask our second biggest share holder.

hell, fellaini is right up there with the likes of higuain, podolski, theo, santi, jack. for me that is the 6 in front of the back 4 and every single one of them deserves £100k a week and higher!
your back up consisting of of arteta ramsey rosicky chamberlain giroud gervinho coquelin frimpong diaby Campbell ryo sanogo should be in the £30-80k bracket. when you actually look at the squad like that you realise that just by signing higuain and fellaini we would actually have some serious depth, with only arteta, coquelin and sanogo not full internationals. with 12 defenders and 3 keepers you have 3 players for each position and you can say goodbye to park, chamakh and bendtner for good whilst santos can be replaced by mendy and djourou by a 4th choice centre back and mannone by a decent keeper

Personally, I’d rather see this deal done than the Higuain one … AS good as Gonzalo is … I think we’re more in need of a DM Beast than a Striker … Fellaini is proven , premier league material . No time needed to adapt and could easily walk into the Middle of our midfield alongside JW10 and SC19 … Has abit of a track record of disciplanary problems though ,but it can be sorted out … If we miss out on this guy … And I haven’t heard anything about Etienne Capoue or Maxime Gonalons recently … Then another trophyless , meaningless season will pass us by … Sign him up !!!

To win the epl you need wc players and they don’t come cheap. If Arsenal aint willing to pay the price, some one would and blame nobody but the board if the gunners can’ compete. That is the reports are true.
