Video: Arsenal 3-0 Stoke: Aubameyang scores double in morale-boosting win
Arsenal beat Stoke City 3-0 at the Emirates this afternoon thanks largely to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
We were woeful in the first half and barely got out of first gear and the sloppy play continued during the early stages of the second period.
It took a rather generous penalty decision to break the deadlock in the 75th minute as Martins-Indi was adjudged to have fouled Ozil in the area even though he got some of the ball.
Auba stepped up to stroke home the resulting spot kick to make it 1-0 before making it 2-0 ten minutes later with a neat finish from 8 yards.
The Gabon international was given the perfect opportunity to seal his hat-trick when Alexandre Lacazette was barged over in the box. However, oddly, the Frenchman took the penalty to make it 3-0 instead of giving it to Aubameyang.
The win does little to improve our league standing but it’s a morale-boosting win ahead of the Europa League quarter-final with CSKA Moscow.
