Arsenal Blow As Man Utd Hold Talks Over £40m Deal For Top Target

By on June 6, 2015

Arsenal have received a blow in their pursuit of Karim Benzema with reports claiming Manchester United have held talks with the strikers agents about a potential £40m move to Old Trafford.

Benzema has been on Wenger’s radar for years as we were interested when he left Lyon back in 2009 and have pretty-much been linked every summer since.

The rumour mill has been speculating once again this summer with reports suggesting that Arsene is ‘desperate’ to sign the French hitman and is ready to launch a €50m (£36m) bid for his signature after supposedly making him his top transfer target.

However, it looks like we’ll now face stiff competition as the Express are reporting that Manchester United held talks with the strikers agent, Karim Djaziri, in the Savoy hotel last week where they discussed a possible move to Old Trafford,

The Red Devils are believed to be ready to splash out £40m (€55m) on the 27-year-old – which would trump the £36m we are supposedly lining-up.

Usually the Benzema rumours are laughed off every transfer window but with new boss Rafa Benitez expected to play Cristiano Ronaldo in a central striking role next season, Benzema could find himself out in the cold.

Obviously I’d love to see the Frenchman come to Arsenal as he’d be an excellent addition to the club and with him leading the line next season, I could see us pushing all the way for the title.

If Madrid show any sign they’ll cash-in this summer, then we should do everything in our power to bring Benzema to the Emirates. We have the financial power to match the likes of United, now is the time to show it.

If they offer €55m, we should at least match it and hope Arsene can persuade him to come to North London over Manchester. He can be the difference between the title and also-rans next season. Let’s not miss out IF he’s available.
