Arsenal receive big injury boost as Jesus close to return

Arsenal have received a huge injury boost as star striker Gabriel Jesus is set to return ahead of next month’s international break, as per Football.london.

After joining the club from Manchester City for a fee of around £45m last summer, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium this term.

He played a key role in the Gunners’ superb start to this season, scoring five goals and notching up as many assists in 14 Premier League appearances before sustaining a knee issue during his international duty with Brazil in last year’s Qatar World Cup.

The forward has been out injured ever since early December and had to undergo surgery. The South American has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks at London Colney and has been progressing well.

According to the report by Football.london, Jesus is edging closer towards a return and Arsenal are hopeful that the Brazil international will be back in action before next month’s international break.

The upcoming games against Everton, Bournemouth, Sporting Lisbon [A] and Fulham are likely to come too soon for Jesus. However, Arsenal will hope to have him back for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 clash with Sporting on March 16th as well as the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on the 19th before domestic football pauses for the international’s.

Jesus edging closer

Eddie Nketiah has done well during the Brazilian’s absence but has come under fire in recent times as he has struggled to showcase his best over the last few games. As a consequence of that, he lost his place in the starting eleven for last weekend’s trip to Leicester City.

Jesus’ injury was thought to be a huge blow for Arsenal as it was believed that this could derail their title charge. However, the north London club have managed to continue their momentum going during this period and have managed to keep hold of top spot. Arsenal are currently two points ahead of the second-placed Man City with a game in hand.

Arsenal will have to play twice every week from now on as the Europa League is set to return. So, the north London club need their full squad to continue the title march and achieve success in Europe’s second-tier competition.

Jesus’ return will be a huge boost for Arsenal as he would definitely be able to help them to compete in both competitions. But it is likely that he may struggle to showcase his best initially following a lengthy injury lay-off and could take time to regain his form.
