Arsenal submit offer for £19m attacker, negotiations ‘progressing well’ towards deal

Houssem Aouar

According to Le10 Sport, Arsenal have tabled an offer for Houssem Aouar and negotiations are ‘progressing well’ with Lyon towards a potential deal.

Aouar is a player many Arsenal fans should remember well as he was heavily linked with a move to north London last summer. Sadly, we weren’t able to agree a deal with Lyon and eventually opted to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid.

However, Mikel Arteta retains an interest in Aouar and it appears Arsenal have now stepped-up their pursuit as LE10 Sport claims we’ve submitted a formal offer for the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

The French publication says negotiations are ‘progressing well’ and while they don’t disclose any specifics about our supposed offer, they do say the bid isn’t far from Lyon’s asking price – which the report says is between €20m-€25m.

That works out at around £19m if we met in the middle, which sounds like an absolute bargain for a player of Aouar’s quality and it’s a huge discount on the figures Arsenal were reportedly quoted last summer, so this deal sounds like a no-brainer.

Arsenal desperately need to add a creative midfielder to the squad after Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid following his loan spell and Aouar has the quality to be a terrific addition to the team.

LE10 Sport says PSG and Atletico Madrid have expressed an interest in the French international but Arsenal are the only club to table a formal offer with talks ‘accelerating’ between the two clubs.

Aouar is one of the most exciting young talents in French football and he provided 7 goals and 3 assists in his 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season. He wasn’t at his best either as he provided 9 goals and 10 assists in 2019/20 so he has the potential to be the creative spark we’ve lacked at times.

Let’s see how things progress over the coming days but I think Aouar at £19m-£20m would be a superb piece of business by Arsenal if we could pull it off.
