Arsenal lead race to sign £43m Serie A star

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Franck Kessie but may have to pay around £43m [€50m] to land the AC Milan midfielder.

The boss knows he needs to reshape his squad this summer as we’ve been well off the pace in recent years and finished way down in eighth position in the Premier League table last season.

Central midfield looks like it’s going to be overhaul as Granit Xhaka is off to Italy, Dani Ceballos has returned to Madrid while the likes of Joe Willock, Lucas Torreira, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Matteo Guendouzi are also set to leave.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks but it looks like we may have renewed our interest in Kessie as Gazzetta Dello Sport says we are leading the race to sign the AC Milan star.

The 24-year-old has just one year left on his contract at the San Siro and is yet to agree terms over an extension. Milan are determined not to lose him on a free transfer so they may have to cash-in this summer if an agreement isn’t found.

The Italian publication says Kessie is demanding a deal worth around £100,000-a-week but Milan are only offering around £70,000, so talks over a new contract are stalling and it seems Arsenal are hoping to take advantage of the situation.

However, despite Kessie’s contract problems, Milan are determined to get decent money for the player if they do sell and Gazzetta Dello Sport suggests a transfer fee would be in the region of £43m [€50m].

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal could afford such a fee as our budget will probably depend on outgoings, but Kessie would be an excellent signing if we could get a deal done this summer.

The Ivory Coast international scored 14 goals and provided a further 6 assists last season and he has the all-action style of play Arsenal desperately need in the middle of the park.

Let’s see how things progress but I’d love to see Kessie joining Arsenal this summer, and think he’d form a superb partnership alongside Thomas Partey in the middle of the park.
