Star to undergo medical on Friday after Arsenal agree £22m deal to sign South American

According to reports today, Gabriel Magalhaes is due to undergo his medical with Arsenal on Friday before signing a five-year contract and completing his move from Lille.

Gabriel has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks after Mikel Arteta identified the 22-year-old as a prime target as he looks to strengthen our leaky defence.

Arsenal have faced competition from a number of clubs for Gabriel’s signature, most notably from Napoli, but it looks as though we’ve won the race as the Telegraph claim Arsenal are set to sign the defender after agreeing an initial £22.6m deal with Lille.

The newspaper says Gabriel also agreed personal terms over a five-year contract with the club on Wednesday night so all that remains is for the South American central defender to undergo his medical.

According to Duncan Castles, Ian McGarry and Graham Hunter – who were talking on The Transfer Window podcast show today – Gabriel will undergo his medical on Friday. They suggest that the fee is closer to £27m but that may include add-ons with the base fee being nearer £22m.

You can listen to the news on the opening section of the podcast in the video below:

The big question is how Gabriel will undergo his medical as due to government legislation, anyone travelling into the UK from France would have to self quarantine for 14 days, so the likelihood is the player will have his medical abroad.

Either way, I’m sure the club will figure out a way to get it done and hopefully Gabriel will be an Arsenal player soon as he’d be an excellent signing if we can get this proposed deal over the line.

The youngster has been one of the best centre-backs in French football over the past two years and was named in L’Equipe’s Team of the Season following a string of impressive performances at the heart of Lille’s defence.

Gabriel could form a rock solid partnership alongside William Saliba at the Emirates over the coming years and he’s a left footed ball playing centre-back – which is something we’ve been crying out for.

If we do manage to sign the Brazilian, Arteta will need to sell at least one, possibly two, of his current centre-backs. Sokratis is being strongly linked with a move to Italy while Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers or Rob Holding could also leave this summer.

Arsenal have just lost Gabriel !! To UTD the player needed more time to make his decision whatever he was holding out for UTD simple as that !! From what was a promising transfer market to the same old Arsenal !! No Gabriel No Partey just an aging Willian !! from a promising pairing of Gabriel and Saliba to Luiz and Saliba from another exciting pairing of Partey and Xhaka to willock and Xhaka !! might as well keep Mustafi and Sokratis now and bring in Ozil as Ceballos will not be coming back !! what a joke !! watch the panic buying in a week or 2 .. we are a club run by idiots the board are a joke! The owners are a farce !! Arteta leave now you are not going to get the players needs ever to make this club great again !! you deserve much better Arteta !! and SMITH- ROWE put in for a transfer mate you also deserve better !! Auba do not sign why would you i wouldnt if i was you !! how can a club act like Arsenal does !! its a joke !! We needed Gabriel and Partey fact !! we needed them over Willian !! but that signing should have told us what we are about as a club and what we were going to get !! might as well keep Laca and Kolasinac !! Big club you must be joking !! we are a nothing club !! finished we this joke now !! i am done with it !!
