Man City vs Arsenal: Betting preview with team news & prediction

By on March 11, 2020

Mikel Arteta Arsenal

Arsenal will be looking to keep in touch with the top four with a positive result when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wednesday night’s trip to Manchester City was postponed after it emerged that some Arsenal players came into contact with Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis during their Europa League meeting at the Emirates on February 27th.

Marinakis has confirmed he’s recently tested positive for the Coronavirus so the Premier League game at the Etihad was cancelled as a precaution. No Arsenal player or staff members have tested positive for the virus so the Brighton game is due to go ahead as planned.

Mikel Arteta will hope the game isn’t called off as his the north Londoners desperately need a win on Saturday to avoid slipping any further behind in the race to finish fourth this season.

Arsenal currently sit ninth in the table – eight points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea with a game in hand – so they have to beat Brighton to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Betting odds & prediction

Arsenal are 5/4 to win the game this weekend – which are big odds considering the clubs stature so some Gooners may be tempted to back their team on Saturday. If you fancy Brighton to take the three points they are priced at 2/1 while the draw is available at 12/5.

The Gunners have been making steady improvements under Arteta and will be quietly confident of taking home a win this weekend so I’m backing them to edge it 2-1 at the Amex. A 2-1 Arsenal win can be backed at odds of 8/1.

Team News

Arsenal will continue to be without the services of Sead Kolasinac as he’s still recovering from a shoulder injury while Lucas Torreira is facing a race against time to play again this season after suffering a fractured ankle earlier this month.

Shkodran Mustafi is a doubt with a thigh injury while Calum Chambers won’t play again for several months due to a knee injury but Kieran Tierney will be available after recovering from a shoulder problem.

Cedric Soares has returned to full training after overcoming a knee injury that he’s been carrying since arriving from Southampton in January but he still lacks match fitness so isn’t expected to be involved on Saturday.

As for Brighton, they have virtually a full strength squad to choose from with only Jose Izquierdo unavailable as the midfielder is still recovering from a knee injury.
