Arsenal chief Sanllehi in advanced negotiations over deal to sign 27-year-old star

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi is in advanced negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over a bargain deal to sign left-back Layvin Kurzawa this month.

Arsenal are stretched on the left side of defence as Kieran Tierney isn’t due back from shoulder surgery until March after enduring an injury plagued campaign following his move from Celtic last summer. Sead Kolasinac has had to play through the pain barrier recently as he’s been carrying ankle and thigh injuries while he picked up a new hip problem in training earlier this week which is expected to keep him out of Saturday’s clash with Sheffield United.

Teenage winger Bukayo Saka has been forced to fill-in at left-back at times in recent weeks but it looks like Mikel Arteta is on the look-out for reinforcements to help us during the second half of the season. Arsenal are currently sixth favourites with bemybet.com to finish in the top four after a disastrous first half to the season so we desperately need to improve the squad this month.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein claims Arsenal are in advanced negotiations over a deal to sign Kurzawa after head of football Raul Sanllehi held crunch talks with PSG on Thursday.

Ornstein says Arsenal had initially planned to sign the 27-year-old on a free transfer when his contract expires in June but have decided to accelerate those plans to help ease our injury woes at left-back.

Given Kurzawa is available for nothing in a few months time, Ornstein claims Arsenal are trying to agree a deal that would see us sign the defender this month without paying a fee – which seems unlikely.

However, The Sun suggests that Arsenal are ready to bid up to £6m to sign the French international and that seems like a more realistic deal as PSG will be tempted to cash-in now rather than lose him for nothing in June.

Kurzawa was regarded as one of the best full-backs in French football during his time with Monaco and started life at PSG well following his £22m move in 2015 as he made over 100 appearances to help them win three consecutive Ligue 1 titles.

However, he’s fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel this season having made just six league starts so a move to Arsenal could suit all parties. Let’s see how the deal develops but I wouldn’t be surprised if Don Raul is able to pull this one off and Kurzawa would be a solid addition to the squad.
