Spanish expert: Arsenal agree deal worth up to £22m to sign attacker

By on January 18, 2019

According to reports, Arsenal have agreed to sign Denis Suarez on an initial loan ahead of permanent deal in the summer that could cost up to £22m and Barcelona are now ready to complete the transfer.

Unai Emery has been working hard alongside Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat to try and strengthen the squad this month and an attacker is on the agenda with both Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Danny Welbeck on the sidelines.

With Mesut Ozil also being frozen out of the squad by Emery, it’s safe to say we need some fresh blood in the final third and Suarez has emerged as the most likely candidate in recent weeks.

The 25-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates but we’ve been struggling to agree terms with Barcelona over a deal as Arsenal have no money available to make permanent transfer in January.

We had hoped to sign Suarez on a simple six-month loan but Barcelona wanted a permanent sale or at the very least a compulsory clause ensuring any initial loan was made permanent in the summer.

It seems we’ve now finally agreed to meet their terms as Spanish football expert Guillem Balague – who works for the likes of Sky Sports and the BBC – claims Arsenal have agreed a deal that will see us pay £1.7m-£2.6m to take Suarez on loan before making the move permanent for £17m-£22m in the summer.

Balague Tweeted the news earlier today and claimed that Barcelona had yet to give the green light for the transfer to be completed, suggesting they may want Suarez to play in the cup games before releasing him at the very end of the month.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira offered his own update this evening after claiming that Barcelona have now given the go-ahead for Suarez’s move to Arsenal to be completed, with the finer details now being ironed out.

Obviously we shouldn’t consider this to be a ‘done deal’ until we see it confirmed on Arsenal.com but it looks like Arsenal are on the verge of completing our first signing of the January window.

Suarez has played as a central midfielder for most of his career but he did play on the wing during his time with Emery at Sevilla so his versatility would be a useful asset if this deal does get over the line.

Ramsey is already gone. One of my current favourite arsenal players but has signed with Juventus on a 5 year deal. Deal will be completed in the summer.
