[Player Ratings] Brighton 1-1 Arsenal: Lichtsteiner & Ozil woeful for Gunners

By on December 26, 2018

A poor performance on the south coast saw Arsenal held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion this evening.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring early on with a lovely finish but shocking defending gifted Brighton an equaliser before half time.

These are my ratings:

Leno  6/10 | Came rushing off his line and missed the ball yet again. Wasn’t protected by his defence but it’s another poor decision from the keeper. His poor form is a concern.

Lichtsteiner  4.5/10 | Shocking game. Poor defending gifting Brighton an equaliser in the first half and he offered nothing going forward with his crossing woeful.

Sokratis  6.5/10 | A couple of nervy moments but was relatively solid at the back.

Koscielny  6/10 | Still working his way back to full match fitness but this was a better display than we’ve seen in recent outings. Subbed.

Kolasinac  6/10 | Wasn’t as threatening going forward as he has been in recent weeks.

Torreira  6/10 | Looks tired. Kept things neat and tidy but wasn’t up to his usual standards. He did play a lovely ball over the top in the first half to release Auba.

Xhaka  6.5/10 | Had a decent first half when he played some lovely balls but influence faded when he dropped in to defence once Koscielny went off.

Guendouzi  5.5/10 | A couple of nice passes in the first half but faded as the game went on and showed no awareness to track Locadia for the equaliser.

Ozil  5/10 | Played a part in the opening goal but was virtually anonymous otherwise. Hooked at half-time which is sure to reignite hid feud with Emery.

Aubameyang  6.5/10 | Superb finish to open the scoring but should have made it 2-0 when clean through but saw his effort well saved. Huge miss.

Lacazette  6.5/10 | Did well to create the opening goal for Aubameyang but was otherwise frustrated. No idea why he was subbed midway through the second half when we were searching a goal.

Subs:

Iwobi   5/10 | No impact after coming on at half time.

Ramsey  5/10 | Took too many touches when on the ball.

Maitland-Niles  5/10 | Wasted a couple of decent opportunities going forward.

Unai Emery is just a kind who lacks tactics in game planning and team selections. Many mistakes being done by him all the time than the players themselves;why substitute Lacazette who was superb in creativity and providing chances for goals.

Emery should have replaced Ozil who was not even near his best a quarter and Aubumeyang who missed a clear cut chance to make two goals up. Lichteinster is one other weakling who should not play, more so with Koscienly who is still recovering. Where is Jenkinson is not injured but why not play him because he is a good defender. Unai must stop childish play and tactics making Arsenal to drop points on small teams; so that we can try to again top four slots. But with this trend I see Unai frustrating Arsenal fans again.

LENO is good but Unai must warn him always to keep on his line because that is his biggest mistakes and costing the team against opponents who uses long aerial passes.

If he doesn’t change on these weakness mentioned I doubt him making history against high firing Liverpool.

I would prefer this strong line up against Liverpool this Saturday and I assure you of 3 point.
    Goal keeper- Leno
Defence- Sokratis, Monreal, Jenkinson, Kolasinac and Bellerin/Maitland Niles
    Midfield- Torreira, Guenduozi, xhaka
    Attack- Iwobi, Lacazette and Aubeumyang.

What was woeful was nearly 70% possession, passing the ball around the back before playing a. Long ball over the top to PEA essentially, bypassing Ozil and Lacazette. The result was a grand total of 7 shots, with only one in the second half. Ozil. aparently became frustrated enough that he dropped deeper in the midfield to pick up the ball later in the first half.
