Arsenal boss Unai Emery will be without four players for the visit of West Ham on Saturday and it looks like Ainsley Maitland-Niles has suffered a setback in his recovery from a fractured leg.

The 20-year-old started at left-back during our Premier League opener against Manchester City in the absence of the injured Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac but it wasn’t long before he joined them on the sidelines.

Maitland-Niles limped off in the first half during the 2-0 defeat following a clash with Kyle Walker and the club confirmed on Arsenal.com that the youngster was expected to be out for 6-8 weeks with a fractured leg meaning he was due to return around late-September or early-October.

However, the latest update from the club suggests that Maitland-Niles has suffered a setback in his recovery as the medical department now claim he’s aiming to return to training in November.

The news will come as a blow as we’re already without Kolasinac with the Bosnian international not due back until October after suffering a serious knee injury during pre-season.

Carl Jenkinson is also facing an extended spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury as he’s expected to be out until November but there has been some positive news on Koscielny.

The Frenchman made a surprise return to light training at London Colney today and while he’s still along way from recovering from his Achilles surgery, Emery says he’s already running after making excellent progress in his rehab.

An update on Arsenal.com said:

Sead Kolasinac
Left knee injury. Aiming to return to training in October.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles
Small fracture to left fibula. Aiming to return to training in November.

Carl Jenkinson
Significant sprain to right ankle. Aiming to return to training in November.

On Koscielny, Emery told Arsenal.com:

on if Koscielny is ahead of schedule…
He’s working very hard. First he was in France. He came back to us last Sunday. We are happy to have him here with us, because he’s our captain and he’s showing us his spirit to stay with us. We need to be patient with him because the injury was an important injury. It’s clear that it’s very important to stay with us, working here and showing us that he wants to help us.

on when he could play…
It’s difficult to know. You look at this morning, he’s running, he’s working on the pitch. The progress is very good progress.

With Maitland-Niles now out until November and Kolasinac on the sidelines until October we’re going to have to pray Monreal stays fit over the coming months or we’ll have a huge problem at left-back.

However, it’s great to see Koscielny making good strides with his recovery and we could see him back in full training in late September with a view to returning to action in October or November if all goes to plan.

I’ll ask again. Why the hell did Emery let Chambers go on loan to Fulham?
I agree with Tony Adams Emery won’t last long.
The Arsenal side, the defence at least is like a patchwork quilt.
We are in turmoil at the back, especially down the RH side.
Shame he didn’t farm out Bellerin! Surpose no club wanted him.

PL is not a training ground for Wannabes.
