Sky Sports: Arsenal tried to sign £39m South American over the weekend

By on May 29, 2018

According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal made a late attempt to sign Fabinho over the weekend before the Brazilian midfielder completed a £39m move to Liverpool.

Arsenal are gearing-up for an important summer after missing out on Champions League qualification and strengthening our options in the middle of the park is believed to be a top priority.

Santi Cazorla has left the club while Jack Wilshere could follow the Spaniard out the exit door as his contract expires next month and he’s yet to agree terms over a new deal.

We’ve lacked a proper defensive midfielder in recent seasons as I don’t think Granit Xhaka qualifies but it looks like the club are hoping to rectify the situation this summer.

Sky Sports claim Arsenal made a last gasp attempt to sign Fabinho over the weekend but the South American midfielder had already decided he wanted to join Liverpool.

Uni Emery is a huge fan of the 24-year-old having tried to sign him during his time at PSG and it seems our new head coach was hoping to lure the Brazilian to the Emirates.

However, we were too late as Fabinho was unveiled as a Liverpool player last night after completing his medical on Monday with Sky Sports claiming Liverpool have paid Monaco £39.3m with a further £4m in potential add ons.

I’m absolutely gutted that we weren’t able to sign him as Fabinho has developed into a top class defensive midfielder over the past two seasons having been converted from right-back.

He would have been a superb signing and solved a problem we’ve had for some time but at least it’s good to see the club are actively trying to sign a defensive midfielder.

We may have missed out on Fabinho but let’s hope Emery/Mislintat have players of similar quality lined-up as we desperately need to add some world class talent to our squad this summer.

Why are Arsenal trying to hijack any deal? The difference between Arsenal & the top clubs is simple. The clubs when moving for a player are quoted a price they can take it or leave it. The top clubs don’t baulk at the price & pay the transfer fee or release clause. Arsenal will offer a lower price then try to negotiate for the player. This frustrates the club & player and they lose interest of any deal with Arsenal. The club need to change their policy and if they want a player if the price isn’t over inflated pay uptight is that simple. They have the money but just don’t seem to part with it. What good is it when the transfer window closes stating they have millions untouched. They’ve been in the Champions League for 20 seasons on the trot & are part of the big six when it comes to tv deals so why are they trying to do everything on the cheap? It just doesn’t add up. If this attitude continues they will fall further and further behind the top 5.

Nothing has change in AFC in terms of policy except in personnel.

I just hope that the GSM(Gazidis, sanille ,Mislintat) equally share in the responsibility of the team performance if things did not go right this season. I wonder why they are more decisive and active in transfer dealings than the new manager.
