Arsenal handed boost as Wenger eyes swoop for Brazilian attacker

By on April 14, 2018

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for Kenedy after joining Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the on-loan Chelsea winger.

Arsene Wenger is under pressure to revamp his squad after a disappointing Premier League campaign and even a Europa League win shouldn’t convince the boss our squad is strong enough to compete with the best.

We’re expected to strengthen the spine of the team with a new goalkeeper, centre-back and central midfielder but I’ve said for some time that the squad also lacks width following the exits of Sanchez and Walcott.

It looks like Wenger is hoping to rectify that problem by bringing in a proper winger this summer as the Mirror are citing a report from ESPN that claims Arsenal have joined the race to sign Kenedy.

The Brazilian youngster joined Chelsea from Fluminense in 2015 but moved to Newcastle on loan in January after struggling to secure first team football at Stamford Bridge.

The 22-year-old has been showing some promising form at St James’ Park as Kenedy has provided 2 goals and 2 assists in his 8 appearances so far during his short time in the north-east.

Kenedy is capable of playing as a left winger, left wing-back or at left-back so he’d give us plenty of options down that wing if we did sign him and it seems we’ve now been handed a timely boost.

Newcastle had hoped to make the South American’s loan deal permanent this summer but boss Rafa Benitez has admitted the player’s form means they’re likely to be priced out of any deal.

When asked if he feared Kenedy’s increasing value could price him out of a move to Newcastle, Benitez is quoted as saying by the Independent:

“Yes, but if you say do you want him to score goals and the value will go up, then yes, I want him to score goals.

“That is it, football is like this. If you have a good player, the value goes higher. He has the level to play in a top team – but he is in a top side already!”

That admission would leave Arsenal in pole position to do a deal if Kenedy decided to remain in the Premier League. However, it seems he’ll also have interest from Bayern and PSG to consider if he leaves Chelsea so any move is still a love way from completion.

If the deal goes through it would seem Wenger is still calling the shots.20 years at any club especially without challenging for the epl considering the resources available is untenable.
Season after season the gunners seem to falter in spring. This is
unacceptable at a premium club like Arsenal.
In the old days it was gate receipts that enable a club to challenge.
    Nowadays it sponsorships.
Most sponsors want to associate with a successful club .
Frankly during the last ten years Arsenal have failed in this respect and despite the cup wins wont gloss over this fact.
