[Player Ratings] CSKA Moscow 2-2 Arsenal: Welbeck shines but Wilshere was abysmal

By on April 12, 2018

Arsenal made hard work of things after coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with CSKA Moscow tonight and book our place in the last four 6-3 on aggregate.

CSKA gave us a real scare as they went 2-0 up by the 50th minute thanks to goals from Chalov and Nababkin following errors from Mustafi and Cech.

However, Welbeck scored a crucial away goal in the 75th minute before Ramsey sealed a 2-2 draw on the night and a 6-3 aggregate win with a lovely finish in injury time.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  4.5/10 | Good initial save in the build up to the Chalov goal but dropped a huge clanger for their second. Decent save to deny a Golovkin free-kick.

Bellerin  6/10 | Average game from Hector. Had a few good moments going forward but not his usual self.

Mustafi  4.5/10 | Another awful error as he didn’t react to track Chalov and prevent the opener. Completely switched off and he does it far too often.

Koscielny  6.5/10 | A few nervy moments in the first half but made some important blocks. Still nowhere near his best.

Monreal  6/10 | Should perhaps have done better to win the header in the build-up to the opening goal. Quiet night.

Elneny  7.5/10 | Not at the races in the first half but played a superb pass to assist Welbeck for the crucial goal and also assisted Ramsey in injury time.

Ramsey  7/10 | Not his best performance by any means but he still popped up with a cheeky goal to make it 2-2 in the dying minutes.

Wilshere  3/10 | Abysmal performance from start to finish. Lost the ball countless times and just fell to the floor. Subbed in the 70th minute, which was about 50 too late.

Ozil  6.5/10 | Mixed night. Worked hard defensively in the first half but couldn’t really influence things in the final third.

Welbeck  7.5/10 | Stunning goal. The turn, the 1-2 and the wonderful finish turned the tie back in our favour at a crucial point in the game. In a good run of form right now.

Lacazette  5/10 | Barely had a touch as we offered nothing going forward until the 76th minute – when he was subbed.

Subs:

Chambers  6/10 | Slotted in to a back three after replacing Wilshere.

Iwobi  5/10 | Fluffed a golden chance to score.

So in true Arsenal style we made life difficult for ourselves but we got the job done in the end and we’re through to the semi’s where we’ll meet either, Salzburg, Marseille or Atletico Madrid.

We have to accept … if Laca is up front all alone … he is a non event. He plays his football in the penalty area …. end of. As for Elnenny, I would like to see HIM as dmf with Xhaka (if selected) less deep and still able to pass and shoot.
