“Arsenal are interested” – Wenger eyeing swoop for £9m Brazilian midfielder

By on January 24, 2018

According to The Sun, Arsenal are eyeing a swoop for £9m-rated Corinthians midfielder Maycon but any possible deal may wait until the summer transfer window.

The club have been working hard this month trying to bring in established names with Henrikh Mkhitaryan arriving from Man Utd while Pierre-Emerick Aybameyang and Jonny Evans are being strongly linked.

However, it seems the boss is also looking to the future as a so-called source has claimed Arsenal are ‘very interested’ in signing Corinthians wonderkid Maycon.

The 20-year-old joined Corinthians at the age of 12 and starred for their youth teams before breaking in to the first team set-up in 2016 where he scored his first goal aged just 18.

The youngster was sent out on loan to Ponte Preta where he made 40 appearances last year and it seems his potential has caught the attention of Arsenal scouts who’ve sent back positive reports to Wenger.

The Sun quote an unnamed source as saying that Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Maycon but he will struggle to get a work permit so we may postpone our pursuit until the summer.

“Arsenal are very interested in Maycon. He has been watched a fair amount for more than a year.

“They have been impressed and he has a promising future. He is not really a player for now.

“There could be issues with getting him a visa. It would take a lot of work behind the scenes to get sorted.

“Arsenal have other priorities, so it could be one that happens in the summer, rather than now.”

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will step-up their interest this month but The Sun suggests that Corinthians value Maycon at around £9m and will demand he returns on loan as part of any deal.
