[Video] Mike Dean apologies to Wenger after penalty error cost Arsenal 2 points

By on January 1, 2018

Footage has emerged on social media showing Mike Dean apologising to Arsene Wenger shortly after wrongly awarding West Brom a penalty during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw yesterday.

We were below our best at the Hawthorns but looked to have secured a hard fought 1-0 victory when Alexis Sanchez’s deflected free-kick gave us the lead in the 83rd minute.

West Brom had offered very little threat in front of goal but they were gifted the chance to snatch a point when Mike Dean awarded them a penalty during the closing minutes of the game.

Kieran Gibbs kicked the ball against Calum Chambers’ arm – which was in a natural position in front of his body – from about a yard away and the referee couldn’t wait to point to the spot.

Jay Rodriguez made no mistake from the resulting penalty to make it 1-1 in the 89th minute and there was precious little time left for us to find a winner.

Understandably, Wenger was furious with the decision and after the boss had remonstrated with the fourth official, Dean went over to have a word in the Frenchman’s ear.

I thought he was warning Arsene to calm down or face being shown to the stands but footage has now emerged that shows Dean was in fact apologising to Wenger for his incorrect penalty decision.

You can see in the video that the fourth official has a word in Dean’s ear before he speaks to Wenger so no doubt he was informing the referee of his mistake which prompted Dean to apologise to Wenger for costing his team two valuable points.

Check out the video here:

It was a horrendous call, and that’s not a bitter Arsenal fans point of view as every pundit and former referee agrees that it should never have been a penalty.

Fair play to Dean for admitting his mistake but it doesn’t get our two points back! Plus, we should have had a penalty in stoppage time when Danny Welbeck was fouled and once again Dean made the wrong call.

I can’t wait for VAR to be introduced here in England on a full-time basis!

As as Baggies fan I cant wait for VAR either! It’d have given us a penalty a tour place earlier this season and we’d be better off all round having been on the wrong end of so many calls as a ‘nothing’ team. No, it wasn’t a penalty – even though his arm out across his chest is far from a natural position. BUT I’m glad we got it. You should have played way better – you’re a fantastic team after all – but a share of the points was fair despite the way it went down. If it finished 0-0 you’d only be looking at how averagely you played. Glad we got lucky as we need every point we can get. A position you are almost certainly never going to be in…

The apology to coach wenger by ref dean was highly provoking and remains provoking. After he has deprived him,Wenger from getting three points then hi pretended as though he regretted his action. Let him take his sorry and stop his ugly officiating.Enemy of beautiful football.

he isn’t apologising, look at it properly. He wasnt apologising because it was a penalty, Chambers raised his hand to the ball, slightly yes but he did it all the same.
When Rodriguez was fouled in the box at the emirates Arsenal fans didn’t say a word then and they should shut up now, it’s embarassing.

See what mike dean hates arsenal and the reason behind his bad decision was that Tottenham Hotspur were having a game the nxt day after we play(remember The day when we played Hotspur and they scored the he started celebrating little did he know the we were gunners by gunning Hotspur thus annoying. Him so don’t be surprised their are some referres who hates Arsenal to death

Another point is that Wenger is not making use of WALCOTT AND OSPINA ALL IS NEEDED IN CHELSEA’S GAME IS SOMEBODY LIKE HIM AND DROP IWOBI CECH( no need of buying a goalkeeper while Ospina is too good

MD shd ask the FA to give Arsenal 2 points stolen by him.
Then AND ONLY THEN WILL FANS BE HAPPY.
Plan B is for him to him to retire.
Then there will be less trouble.

Arsenal fans should shut-up what did u expect dean to do when that stupid chamber obviously handed the ball. What is wenger still doing there, 22 years in a club you are still struggling with teams like west brown. If dean failed to gave the panalty west brown may be complaining so what did you want the referee to do.
