According to quotes in the Mirror, Arsene Wenger has been assured that Alexis Sanchez is “100%” committed to Arsenal despite seeing his proposed £60m move to Manchester City collapse on deadline day.

Sanchez was linked with a move to City all summer but Pep Guardiola’s side only formalised their interest during the closing stages of the transfer window.

The Mirror claim Sanchez made it clear he wanted to join City after a £60m deal was provisionally agreed between the two clubs but it was dependent on Arsenal finding a replacement.

We attempted to pull off a sensational £90m deal to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar on Thursday afternoon but the attacker turned down the move as he felt there wasn’t enough time to think about such an important decision as he was playing for France that evening.

Wenger was unwilling to make-do with a lesser target so Sanchez’s move to City collapsed and we’ve seen reports leak out this morning claiming that Alexis is ‘furious’ and is threatening to go on strike.

However, the Mirror claim that such talk is wide of the mark as Arsenal were in regular contact with Sanchez and his agents throughout the whole saga and were told the player would still be fully committed if he had to return to north London.

The newspaper says Arsenal chiefs have been given fresh assurances by his agent Fernando Felicevich that Sanchez will return to the club fully focussed and will see-out the remaining year of his contract without issue.

Wenger has now confirmed that he expects Alexis to be “100%” committed when he returns after the international break. When asked how committed Sanchez will be, Wenger is quoted as telling beIN Sports by the Mirror:

“100 per cent. Your interest is always to perform. It was not very close. It’s very difficult for me to speak about that because what I want the player to do is now focus on his career, on his season and on Arsenal football club.”

Sanchez is now expected to start for Arsenal against Bournemouth at the Emirates next Saturday after he’s fulfilled his international commitments and I’m sure he’ll get a warm reception from the crowd.

However, I’m not sure the same can be said of Wenger and the board as the fan-base is seething following what was one of the most diabolical summer transfer windows in recent memory.

Wenger clueless. It’s as if he suddenly awoke from his slumbers just before midnight on the 31st August.

If he (Wenger) hasn’t already lost it, he will lose the dressing room and be out of there by Christmas. He has been trading on the respect and esteem which he has been afforded over the last 4 to 5 years, that’s now GONE. HE IS FINISHED
